Neuse Charter School of Johnston County is Hiring a Head Coach: Varsity Winter Track (Winter) Near Smithfield, NC

Coach's Requirements & Courses
New Coaches
  • Go to www.nfhslearn.com and create a username and password.
    • Take the Fundamental of Coaching and submit to the AD the date of completion ($35 cost but you will be reimbursed when you complete the course and turn in the certificate and proof of payment via the Reimbursement Form.) This is a one-time requirement due before the date of first competition.
    • Take the Concussion in Sports and submit to the AD the date of completion. This a free course due annually before the date of first practice.
    • Head Coaches only: Attend the NCHSAA Sports Rules Clinic during NCHSAA summer conference or via the online portal. This is due annually prior to the date of first competition.
  • If you are CPR/AED certified, please provide documentation to the AD. If not, please let the AD know, and you will be assigned to a class. Please do not pay in advance for this class. We have a corporate account. This is required of all coaches prior to date of first practice.
  • Set up a time to meet with one on one with the Athletic Director(s).
Coach's Responsibilities
Pre-Season
  • Complete and sign the Coaching Packet via AdobeSign.
  • Complete the Background Check Form if one has not been completed in the previous five (5) years.
  • Review the Athletic Handbook and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and let the AD know if you have any questions.
  • Submit Coaching Bio to the AD.
  • Attend preseason coaches training meeting.
  • Attend North Carolina Coaches Rules Clinic (3rd week of July) or complete the required online sport-specific Rules Clinic.
  • Complete other sport-specific training (as needed).
  • Read and follow the NCHSAA rules for coaches requirements, dead periods, sports rules, etc.
  • Make sure all student-athletes are registered by their parents in the DragonFly sports system.
  • Ensure all student-athletes have physical exams, concussion forms, and eligibility and authorization forms submitted prior to allowing them to participate in tryouts, workouts, or any form of participation. (Forms need to be turned into the AD within 24 hours of receiving the forms.)
In-Season
  • Use the Band messenger system as your main source of communication. This allows a consistent method of athletic communication and keeps a record of what is sent. This protects you as a coach.
  • Confirm and submit roster in DragonFly to AD within two (2) days of tryouts.
  • Provide the AD the parent letter at least 24 hours prior to the season Parent/Athlete meeting.
  • Attend the Parent/ Athlete meeting.
  • Supervise student-athletes use of equipment and facilities.
  • Organize practices and drills to improve player learning and growth.
  • Monitor student-athletes academic progress and report cards.
  • Document athletes practice attendance.
  • Report scores/stats via the reporting tool determined by the NCHSAA in a timely manner.
  • Coaches need to designate the following: Team Scorekeeper, Team Parent (to help organize transportation, snacks, etc.), and any other sport-specific help. AD/Booster Club will organize ticket takers, event security, clock operator, and concession workers.
  • Assist with home contest facilities management.
  • Have emergency contact information and EAP folder at all practices and contests.
  • Attend Booster Club meetings.
  • Address and resolve program issues and problems - keep AD informed.
  • Maintain high standards of personal conduct and represent Neuse Charter School well in the community.
  • Report any damages to the facility or equipment to the AD or Admin immediately.
  • Completely follow all expectations of coaches as outlined in the Athletic Handbook.
Post Season
  • Complete and submit end of season reports via the NCHSAA determined reporting tool.
  • Check-in and inventory uniforms, turn in a report to the AD of the students that have not turned them in within one week of last date of play.
  • Complete inventory of equipment and supplies. List any missing or damaged items that need to be replaced.
  • Submit awards list to the AD for the post-season awards ceremony by deadline set by the AD.
  • Attend and present at the post-season awards and sign certificates for scholar-athletes.
  • Locker room or practice space clean up.
  • Submit schedule requests to AD.
  • Submit equipment needs wish list to AD.
  • Meet with AD and complete the evaluation process.
