Job Description
This Diversity & Equity Success Specialist position is a key position in helping the college achieve its goal to eliminate equity gaps in student success and will lead in coordinating efforts to support the BIPOC student population, with responsibility for implementing innovative approaches and solutions to help students navigate through enrollment, retention, and completion obstacles and advancing equity and inclusion by understanding the students’ experiences and supporting their needs along the journey. This position fosters a sense of belonging for the BIPOC students by coordinating support services through collaboration with faculty and staff, and engaging BIPOC students in retention activities by serving as a mentor to that student population. The position facilitates relationships and outreach efforts for the BIPOC students by connecting them with appropriate on- and off-campus resources; assists in transitioning and on boarding BIPOC students into the College; and coordinating professional development training for faculty and staff to better understand the needs of the BIPOC students. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (AVP-DEI).
The duties and responsibilities for this position are designed to support the Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and its strategic goals, to include administrative functions in support of the Department and Campus Diversity Officer (AVP-DEI). This position will serve as the Affirmative Action reporting designee, supporting the implementation and reporting functions of the Affirmative Action Plan alongside the Affirmative Action officer.
This position helps promote a more diverse, engaged, and inclusive campus culture for students and employees.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 3 or more years of experience directing programming to develop and integrate appropriate and supportive diversity programs, advise, resources, and activities
  • Demonstrated experience working with students or student-related programs within higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of Diversity, Inclusion, Racial Justice, and Social Justice topics demonstrated through certificates or certifications, formal education, or workshop series attended.
  • An understanding of the learning needs of diverse historically marginalized students.
  • Experience effectively working with and supporting individuals of marginalized and dominant social groups, and intersecting identities is required.
  • Strong administrative and data reporting duties.
  • Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to see a project through completion (program or project management).
  • Strong computer software and internet skills are required.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and organize tasks and follow through on activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to serving a culturally and linguistically diverse college community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Program planning or program design.
  • Affirmative Action reporting, Office of Civil Rights compliance, or similar reporting functions
  • Knowledge of Minnesota State College and University reporting system
  • Public Speaking
