Scope of Duties:
Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) staff members are committed to providing friendly, courteous service to the public. All work related tasks will be performed in a professional, competent manner. This position serves visitors to Mackinac State Historic Parks by scheduling and supervising guest services representatives (GSR). The lead will also manage all aspects of daily cash handling.
Work Location and Schedule:
The workstation for this position is the Colonial Michilimackinac Visitor’s Center in Mackinaw City, Post Hospital Administration Office on Mackinac Island, or other MSHP locations as assigned. Days and hours worked will vary as park needs dictate.
Responsibilities:
- Put our visitors first by treating them as respected guests and serving their needs.
- Schedule and supervise guest services representatives.
- Perform the checkout procedures of guest services representatives as outlined in the established guidelines.
- Assist the sales manager with various projects including training of GSR staff, coordination of on-site activities, and collecting of sales and promotional data.
- Function as a GSR at a regular sales area as needed.
- As needed, assist GSR’s with problems arising with computerized cash registers, coupons, group tour, and visitor related issues.
- Perform office activities as needed.
- Assist with food service responsibilities and ensure that standards for safe food handling are followed (when assigned to Colonial Michilimackinac).
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school graduate.
- Ability to supervise people of all ages.
- Familiarity with computers recommended.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (ability to read and write).
- Ability to perform simple bookkeeping procedures.
- Ability to operate basic office machinery.
- Ability to maintain professional confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
- Due to the supervisory nature of this position, the lead GSR will work 40 hours per week, including Saturdays and Sundays.
Physical Requirements:
Stretching and bending are moves commonly made throughout the day by employees in this position. The employee must have the ability to do the following activities, with or without reasonable accommodation: frequent lifting, carrying, transporting, loading and unloading of up to 35 pounds, walking long distances and up steep inclines in all weather conditions, frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching and grasping, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.
Supervision:
In conjunction with the Sales Manager, this position directly supervises GSRs at the Colonial Michilimackinac Visitor’s Center and Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. Position reports to the Sales Manager and/or Head GSR Supervisor. The Chief of Finance and Accounting will supervise all accounting procedures and office activities.
General Position Information:
This is a temporary seasonal at-will position which serves at the will of the employer and does not include recall rights or benefits (other than those mandated by governmental laws). This position will expire at the time employment is ended for the season and the employee does not have recall rights to this or any other MSHP position in the future. Specifically, the park is under no obligation to hire the individual in subsequent seasons. The number of weeks and hours worked may vary as park needs dictate. Additional information will be provided upon employment.
