Job Description – Architectural CAD Drafter and Designer

Summary/Objective

The Architectural CAD Drafter and Designer is responsible for creating competent, clear, accurate, and detailed drawings with minimal input on a variety of projects while adhering to project schedules; this is often with minimal input. This position will assist in developing computer-aided drafting design solutions while providing support to all divisions. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Steel and Metals.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Prepare construction plans for architect’s seal, shop drawings for commercial TPO roofs, steel shop drawings, metal roofs, sheet metal and wall panels including ACM rainscreen panels.
  • Prepare new drawings and revise existing drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts, such as metal panels drawings and general arrangement layouts and details of project site.
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments as necessary.
  • Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects.
  • Assist with tasks utilizing standard drafting detail programs.
  • Assist in continuous drafting detail improvement efforts.
  • Research solutions to project concerns and present solutions to design problems.
  • Review and revise drawings based on feedback from team members and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including reports and manuals.
  • Responsible for adhering to company and client drafting standards and procedures.
  • Possess the ability to work in several directions simultaneously.
  • Prepare submittals.
  • Assist in programing CNC machine using AutoCAD and Panel Builder software as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma and course work in drafting technology or specialized CAD certification, and 3-5 years relevant drafting experience.
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in computer aided drafting/design preferred.
  • Proficient, and preferably exceptional, knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program; with the ability to use higher-level, time saving programs and routine commands, utilizing advanced tools and customization of that same CAD program. AutoCAD preferred.
  • Proven experience as a CAD Drafter or similar role preferred.

Position Requirements

  • Ability to understand sketches and design intent to accurately create models and drawings.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Must have an ability to read and interpret system designs and blueprints as well as architectural and/or engineering drawings, sketches, technical specifications, and calculations.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, technical writing skills and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in high-volume, deadline-driven, collaborative team environment.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Sheet metal design experience preferred.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to team’s success.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn and grow.
  • Must be able to perform assigned tasks and meet budgeted timelines.
  • Steel detailing experience preferred.
  • Able to proactively address potential issues or errors.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship, in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some lifting, bending, and standing may be necessary. Occasional visits to job site locations may be required. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time non-exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM with a 1-hour lunch.
