Position summary: The laundry manager directly supervises the laundry staff and offender workers assigned to the department. Responsible for planning laundering schedules, proper use and maintenance of equipment and maintaining records of operations. Responsible for the custody and discipline of offenders in facility in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential responsibilities:

• Plan work schedules to meet all production requirements.
• Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance, recommend and implement department and personnel changes as approved by the assistant warden, operations and coordinated with the human resources supervisor prior to implementation.
• Create time reports and record all staff and offenders assigned to the laundry.
• Supervise operation of laundry equipment; perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Perform tests on wash formula.
• May perform various laundry duties which require lifting, bending, squatting, and long periods of standing. Push and pull laundry carts. Perform security functions including “pat” and “strip” searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions.
• Wash, dry and fold offender items as needed which requires lifting, bending, squatting, and long periods of standing. Push and pull laundry carts.
• Perform security functions including body searches by squatting and bending to perform such functions.
• Provide and conduct safety training programs for all offender laundry employees.
• Maintain required records and assist in preparation of necessary reports.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Education and experience requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
• Three (3) years full-time, wage-earning correctional, commercial or institutional laundry experience. Thirty (30) semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the CHEA or by the USDE or equivalent trade school courses in the field of culinary, hotel or restaurant management may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
• Two (2) full years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
• A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
• Post-hire: Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass TDCJ approved annual background check.
