SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of Plant Manager and Delivery Coordinator, the primary duties of the position are placement and maintenance of product inventory in yard, and loading/unloading inventory items on and off the production line.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

1. Learn product codes. Detect product colors required by shippers.

2. Detect when products do not meet quality standards and machinery does not meet operational standards.

3. Communicate inventory to management, especially low inventory.

4. Inspect inventory. Use a tape measure to product sizes.

5. Develop very good knowledge of inventory sizes, types, colors and pallet/package counts.

6. Know location and general quantity of all inventories at all times.

7. Maintain yard in orderly and hazard free condition during all weather.

8. Prepares inventory for shipment.

9. Operate a forklift and/or skid loader efficiently and safely. Mount and dismount the forklift and skid loader frequently during the day. Conduct and follow inspection procedures.

10. Understand and follow directions in English as required by safety and job performance standards.

11. Maintain high level of customer service as required or directed. Cooperate with others.

12. Carefully follow transportation, noise, dust, and other environmental safety procedures as directed.

13. All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

QUALIFICATIONS: Operate fork truck safely around machinery, throughout the plant and in the storage yard organizing the product according to plant and yard needs.

Education, experience and skills: Requires High School diploma, GED or equivalent education. Must be knowledgeable about safety regulations. Must have appropriate training and understand the specific operating functions and controls for a fork truck and a commercial truck. Must have English language reading and writing abilities in order to understand written safety guidelines. Must have good vision and ability to recognize differences in product mix. Must be dependable, well organized, safety minded, and have efficient work habits. Must be able to pass OSHA fork truck certification examination and yard evaluation.

Physical, mental and environmental requirements: Must be able to follow lifting and back safety guidelines while handling concrete products and wooden pallets. Lift concrete products and other objects weighing up to and exceeding 100 pounds each, at heights from floor level to 4 feet high. Sacked cement up to 100 lbs. each may also be moved as required. Uses forklift and/or hand loads vehicles, bending forward to reach inside of vehicles, as required or directed. Use proper safety guidelines during the complete workday. Shifting gears on fork truck requires coordination of hands and feet. Must be able to climb in and out of fork truck to check product on forks. Work is performed outdoors and fork truck is operated under Midwest seasonal weather conditions including summer heat, winter cold and other conditions. Environment also includes varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust and dirt at plant. Must be able to follow noise, dust and other environmental safety procedures as required or directed.
