FLSA Classification: Non Exempt, Part Time

Salary Range: $15-$20/hr DOQ

Reports to: The Dance, Cheer, Pom Instructor reports to the Superintendent of Recreation

Date: June 2024

Summary

The Dance, Cheer, Pom Instructor will be responsible for the preparation of lesson plans and the instruction for up to 14 dance students per class period. Plan lessons, choreograph dances, communicate with students and parents and instruct participants using correct technique and terminology. Take classroom attendance. Select age appropriate music for classroom and recitals. Measure for costumes, fill out order forms and assist with recitals and performances. Follow all Park District Safety Standards.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise the arrival and dismissal of children.
  • Develop daily lesson plans according to the syllabus for each level or genre
  • Supervise children at all times when at dance, cheer or pom
  • Prepare, choreograph dances, cheer, or pom routines
  • Assist with recitals and performances.
  • Interact with participants and parents and be able to answer any questions.
  • Meet with Recreation Superintendent periodically.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Administer First Aid as needed according to the Park District’s Communicable Disease Policy.
  • Understand the Park District’s safety procedures and requirements. Report all incidents and potential hazards to the Recreation Superintendent as soon as possible.
  • Attend in-service training sessions.
  • Distribute Park District information when requested.
  • Assist other employees of the Park District as needed.
  • Work in conjunction with other dance, cheer, or pom staff.

Hours

Evenings and weekends; may include holidays

Work Environment

This position will occur in an indoor, temperature controlled setting. Work environment may be loud at times when students are present and music is playing.

The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience

Have experience/knowledge in dance, cheer, and/or pom

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • The Dance, Cheer, Pom Teacher must be at least 16 years of age
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required or obtained upon hire
  • Present oneself as a positive role model and have strong leadership skills, and maintain the ability to communicate effectively with participants and parents
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred
  • Must be able to Demonstrate, Choreograph and Instruct participants with positive feedback
