Hill Country Christian School of Austin is Hiring a College Counselor - Part-Time (50%) Near Austin, TX

Title: College Counselor

Purpose: The College Counselor is responsible for collaborating with the Director of College Guidance to ensure best practices and efficient operation of the academic guidance department of the Upper School.

Accountability: Reports to the Director of College Guidance

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time (50%)

Qualifications/Skills: 

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Google applications and Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be capable of exercising good judgment in evaluating situations, managing priorities, and making decisions.
  • Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task with frequent interruptions. 
  • Must maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding the personal information of students and families.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provides support to the Director of College Guidance, offering assistance for various projects, events, and initiatives as needed and requested
  • Adjusts day-to-day priorities at the discretion of the Director of College Guidance, addressing any needs that arise related to Academic and College Guidance
  • Takes responsibility for gathering and documenting information related to various initiatives throughout the school year (CCU registration, test registration, senior information spreadsheet)
  • Masters and effectively employs database software (e.g. SCOIR) to support administrative tasks related to the college application process (e.g. college acceptance wall)
  • Share financial aid and scholarship information on a timely basis with students and families
  • Offers assistance in the planning and execution of the annual College Fair along with periodic Texas college visits over the school year
  • Coordinates and manages receptions for college admissions representatives on campus
  • Offers assistance in the planning, execution, and proctoring of the PSAT, SAT School Day, and AP exam administrations
  • Co-leads and facilitates grade-level presentations and guidance lessons for high school students
  • Provides academic support and counseling to middle school students to the extent possible in preparation for course registration
  • Participates in course registration presentations for middle school students during the spring semester
  • Receives and processes schedule requests for middle school students within the designated add/drop period
  • Applies and advocates the use of the Matthew 18 school policy for biblical conflict resolution

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position most of the time using repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements. 
  • Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information, whether in person, via email, or telephone. Frequently communicates with co-workers and others.
  • Must be able to frequently move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. 
  • Must be able to operate a computer most of the time and frequently a copy and scanning machine. 
  • Must be flexible and adapt to various schedules and administrative changes. 
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
