Engineered Transportation International is Hiring a Director, Global EHS Near Athens, TN

POSITION SUMMARY: Plan, implement, and coordinate environmental, health and safety programs, requiring application of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions. Manage the risk functions for the company including but not limited to property, auto, general liability and workers compensation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, occupational diseases or environmental incidents to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, safety and environmental equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety and environmental laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment. See more occupations related to this task.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing. See more occupations related to this task.
  • Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
  • Interpret safety and environmental regulations for others interested in industrial safety or environmental conditions, such as safety engineers, environmental engineers, labor representatives, safety and environmental inspectors.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety, and environmental requirements have been met.
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
  • Review employee safety and environmental programs to determine their adequacy.
  • Conduct or direct testing of air emissions, water, waste, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to organizations on how to handle health-related problems and make needed changes.
  • Maintain liaisons with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated.
  • Plan and conduct industrial hygiene research.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.
  • Write and revise safety and environmental regulations and codes.
  • Confer with medical professionals to assess health risks and to develop ways to manage health issues and concerns.
  • Install safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation. See more occupations related to this task.
  • Act as company representative for all environmental and safety regulatory contact.
  • Manage the risk management program to include insurance coverages.
  • Primary contact for insurance claims involving all types of claims except for human resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or degree in EHS Management or similar.
  • 10-15 years progressive Safety experience (5 in Environmental) in manufacturing environment.
  • CSP preferred.
  • Global experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas were all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shops and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • For the most part, ambient temperatures with typical plant lighting and manufacturing equipment are present throughout the facility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sit or Stand as needed
  • Walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day
  • Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist or lifting as required to reach documents or store materials throughout the workday.
  • Proper lifting techniques required
