Position Overview:

The purpose of this classification is to provide the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office with hardware and software maintenance and support for all computer systems and associated networking and communications infrastructure.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address office needs and changing office practices.

  • Maintains and repairs the Sheriff’s Office computer system.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to other employees in the diagnosis of difficult hardware problems and the development of solutions.
  • Maintains adequate documentation of all systems and procedures.
  • Conducts computer training for Sheriff’s Office staff with the respect to the use of PC hardware, database, spreadsheet, word processing, and other software
  • Monitor information technology advancements for application to the Sheriff’s Office information system. Conducts research into products, services, and technologies as needed.
  • Provides technical support to all Sheriff’s Office employees.
  • Supports staff in the use of standardized software.
  • Researches, selects, installs, trains, and maintains software to be used with PC computers within the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Regular and routine attendance at work is required.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates computers and other office equipment.
  • Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field emphasizing computer technology at a two- or four-year college or university supplemented by one year experience in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and related work experience will be considered.
