First Baptist School of Charleston is looking for an experienced and reliable school custodian and bus driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience cleaning and maintaining large facilities, as well as knowledge of proper safety and security procedures. He or she will be responsible for keeping our school clean and organized, as well as setting up and breaking down classrooms and other areas for events. Candidate will also be in charge of providing safe transport for students based on a schedule and route. Must have Class B Driver’s License with passenger and school endorsements. Air brake endorsement is a plus.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform all custodial duties as assigned by the head custodian or school administrator, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms and locker rooms, and emptying trash
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment at all times
• Report any maintenance issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs to the head custodian or school administrator immediately
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations when handling cleaning supplies and equipment
• Follow all school policies and procedures
• Assist with set-up and break-down for school events as needed
• Keep storage areas and closets clean and organized
• Perform routine maintenance on custodial equipment
• Monitor supply levels and order new supplies as needed
• Train new custodial staff members as needed
• Attend all required meetings and trainings
• Transport children and other passengers to and from school
• Obey all traffic laws
• Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
• Ensure the safety of all students
• Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed
• Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
• Attend safety meetings as required
• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proven experience as custodian or janitor
• Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
• Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
• Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
• Reliable transportation
• Physical stamina and strength, able to lift 50 pounds
