Edgewood Country Club is excited to announce an exceptional career opportunity for the position of General Manager!

Chartered in 1898, Edgewood Country Club is the oldest private country club in West Virginia, welcoming families, couples, and individuals for generations. Edgewood Country Club has two locations: the Main Clubhouse, located in the Edgewood Historic District of Charleston, WV, and the Derrick's Creek Clubhouse, located in nearby Sissonville, WV, home to the Club's George Cobb-designed 18-hole golf course, pro shop, and 19th Hole restaurant. The Main Clubhouse is the center of activity, anchored by a full-service dining room and grill, along with four Har-Tru clay tennis courts, pickleball courts, squash doubles and singles courts, state-of-the-art aquatic and fitness facilities, modern ballroom, and meeting and event spaces.

As our new General Manager, you will orchestrate all facets of the club operations, enhancing our membership experience. This pivotal role demands a blend of strategic oversight and operational agility, ensuring outstanding financial performance, member satisfaction, and team development. The ideal candidate will be a catalyst for excellence, driving operational success and fostering an inspiring team culture.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement, direct, and execute general policies established by the Board of Governors.
  • Develop, maintain, and disseminate a management policy to guide all Club personnel toward optimal operating results, employee morale, and member satisfaction.
  • Coordinate the marketing and membership relations programs to promote the Club’s services and facilities to potential and present members.
  • Welcome new Club members and meet and greet Club members as practical during their visits to the Club.
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of all the Club’s physical assets and facilities. Maintain all amenities, in the highest quality and condition as possible at all times.
  • Work with department heads to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all club employees, and confer with them about personnel-related matters including compensation, job changes, performance evaluation, etc.
  • Create and implement systems to monitor the service standards and the success of those standards through a member survey, member satisfaction and feedback, or member comment card program.
  • Have high manageability and reliability with a strong tendency to follow policies, accept external controls, and work within the rules and procedures.
  • Coordinate the development of financial reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Governors.
  • Review and approve payable invoices in accordance with approved policies.
  • Coordinate and serve as an ex-officio member of appropriate Club committees.
  • Give direction to and work closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms, and individuals providing services to the Club.
  • Consistently assure that the Club is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the President or Board of Governors.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership/top-level general management experience in a hospitality business, private member-owned club, with multi-dimensional operations, or leading operations outside of the club, hospitality, food and beverage industry of similar dynamic, quality, and relevant operation.
  • A preference, but not requirement is a BS or BA degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university, preferably in business management, hospitality management, or applicable field.
  • A CCM and CCE designation or similar accreditation outside of the Club industry is desirable or willingness to obtain.
  • Management and leadership skills necessary for success as demonstrated and verified record of previous success.
  • Must possess a passion for providing high-quality member service and a commitment to exceeding expectations by setting operational standards, benchmarks, and daily inspection of all services.
  • Must be outgoing, social, people-oriented, and participate with others for team success.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with excellent oral and written skills in all forms of communication.
  • Must have the ability to function under pressure, set priorities, and adjust to changing conditions.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Must possess a working proficiency of computer skills and knowledge on software including MS - Exchange, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Recipe and Cost Control software, and POS / Club Software Programs (Edgewood Country Club uses Club Essentials).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • $75,000/year to $85,000/year base salary
  • Full health care benefits package available
  • Paid time off available in first year
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
