Essential Job Function:
- Understanding the Easterseals MORC Mission and the strategic direction for outreach activities across the organization.
- Responsible for community outreach throughout the Easterseals MORC geographical area, providing community education and raising awareness of programs and services offered, with a focus on the homeless population.
- Organizing, attending and presenting at business, community and neighborhood group meetings in support of outreach strategies, with a focus on homeless services and shelters.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with representatives of various healthcare, human service, social and civic organizations.
- Engaging community members in outreach programs to increase their knowledge of Easterseals MORC and available programs and services.
- Direct services with individuals include outreach in person, by telephone or face to face to explore barriers to engagement and appointment attendance, develop solutions, provide information, and answer questions.
- Responsible for outreach and engagement activities for new individuals and families who have contacted Easterseals MORC for services or who have been referred for services. Activities may include phone calls, visits, sending letters and scheduling or rescheduling appointments. Focus on high-risk and homeless individuals.
- Prepare and maintain internal reports to document support of local and agency-wide outreach strategies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles of trauma informed care.
- Willingness to support and assist consumers with trauma related issues
Minimum Qualification:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree in a human services field, business administration, marketing, communications, or related area.
- Must have at least three (3) years of full-time experience in customer service, community relations, public affairs or related field (Master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience).
- Be a Certified Peer Support Specialist or be willing to become certified as a Peer Support Specialist preferred.
- Community engagement/outreach experience in a human services setting preferred.
- Valid motor vehicle operator license in the State of Michigan.
- Auto insurance as required by Michigan No-fault requirements.
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse communities.
- Knowledge of government structures, social/human service agencies, and policies that impact Easterseals business.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing and oral presentation skills.
- Experience facilitating public meetings and other public forums.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
- Available to attend evening and weekend community events and meetings as needed
Experience
Required- 2 year(s): 2 years of experience working in the behavioral health and/or substance use disorder system. Experience working with homeless individuals is a plus.
Education
Required- Bachelors or better in Human Services
