Duties As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST at the GS-1035-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: * Identify communication needs and develop and execute communication strategies, goals, and objectives, processes, and materials to meet those needs while synchronizing and integrating communication messages with those from higher headquarters. * Execute a comprehensive Public Affairs exercise/event integrating media relations, social media, community/Congressional relations, internal information, visual information, communication planning, and contingency/crisis response. * Conduct formal media (traditional and social) assessment and content analysis against previously developed baseline and across the competition and conflict continuum. * Research and recommend appropriate actions or interpretation of issues considering social/political environment. Advise on the potential public reaction to proposed policies, plans, and actions. * Represent JPSE with a variety of installations, local government, public, civic, service, industry, educational, and media organizations. Plan, organize, execute, and evaluate the public affairs/communication aspects of command sponsored or supported joint training events. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority * A pre-employment physical/medical examination is required and may be required on a periodic basis after appointment * Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606 Qualifications You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to theGS-12 grade level in the Federal service: * Executing comprehensive public affairs events integrating media relations, social media, community/Congressional relations, internal information, especially within Joint Operations. * Implementing public affairs tactics, techniques, and procedures to support and amplify senior leaders' priorities, mission and organizational objectives. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
