DMH - Central Office is Hiring a Mental Illness/Problematic Sexual Behavior Program Psychologist Near Westborough, MA

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced Mental Illness/Problematic Sexual Behavior Program (MI/PSB) Psychologist. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing assessment, treatment, consultation, and training services to the Department of Mental Health Central and Western areas, including DMH personnel, contractors, and clients who have exhibited problematic sexual behaviors. The chosen candidate will operate according to procedures and guidelines established by the MI/PSB Program and will be responsible for ensuring that all job duties and responsibilities are provided in a timely and efficient manner to all stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Conduct MI/PSB Full Assessments, Record Review Assessments, and Consultation Assessments with DMH clients who have exhibited problematic sexual behaviors, delineating risk factors for future sexual violence as well as recommending treatment interventions and risk management strategies.
  • Serve as MI/PSB assessment coordinator for the Central area, assisting the MI/PSB Program Director with fielding MI/PSB referrals and completing referral packets.
  • Deliver individual and group treatment to identified DMH clients who have exhibited problematic sexual behaviors.
  • Provide clinical oversight to DMH staff, contract providers, and/or students providing MI/PSB treatment in Central and/or Western areas on an as-needed basis.
  • Offer case consultation to treatment teams and residential providers regarding treatment needs and risk management of DMH clients who have exhibited problematic sexual behaviors.
  • Communicate with DMH treatment providers and site/hospital liaisons on a regular basis to assist with prioritization of assessment referrals, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring of risk management issues.
  • Maintain a clinical record of all assessments, relevant treatment materials, case consultations, and other clinical data received from other sources for each client.
  • Keep up an area-wide database for Central and Western areas, tracking all DMH clients/patients who have been identified as concerns due to their sexual behavior and update database regularly in coordination with individual site liaisons.
  • Participate in the DMH Western/Central MI/PSB Steering Committee meetings, MI/PSB Provider meetings, Central area risk meetings, and MI/PSB evaluator meetings as well as providing in-service training to DMH staff, residential providers, and students (e.g., interns, fellows, and residents) on issues related to clients with MI/PSB issues.
  • In addition to providing services to the Western/Central area, provides statewide MI/PSB coverage as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Substantial knowledge about types and symptoms of current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), particularly diagnoses most commonly co-occurring with problematic sexual behaviors.
  • Considerable knowledge of conceptualizations of sexual deviance, including assessment approaches and behavioral manifestations.
  • Experience with psychological tests used in measuring intelligence, achievement, personality, response styles, and related areas, and the ability to administer, score, and interpret such tests.
  • Knowledge of empirically-supported actuarial and structured professional judgment approaches to sexual violence risk assessment and ability to clearly communicate factors contributing to problematic sexual behaviors in oral and written work.
  • Proficiency interacting with clients who are experiencing varying levels of distress and dysfunction including the ability to gather clinical data through observing and interviewing individuals, administering psychological testing, examining records, and communicating with collateral contacts.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize clinical data, draw relevant conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations as well as maintaining accurate records, exercising discretion in handling confidential information and writing high quality comprehensive assessments in a timely manner.
  • Aptitude to provide evidence-based, assessment-informed treatment of individuals with co-occurring mental illness and sexual violence risk factors.
  • Capacity and ability to explain the provisions of laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, and ethical standards governing assigned activities.
  • Experience in consulting with and providing feedback regarding risk management needs for individuals who are being assessed for problematic sexual behaviors.
  • Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and ability to travel to multiple sites across the state.

  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have a Doctorate in Psychology from school accredited by the American Psychological Association.

Applicants must also have at least three years of years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a Licensed Psychologist in the application of psychological principles and techniques in a recognized agency providing psychological services or treatment, of which (B) at least one year must have included supervision over Post-doctoral Psychologists-in-training and/or Psychological Assistants.
Special Requirements:

Current and valid registration as a Psychologist by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Psychology.

Based on assignment, must meet the eligibility requirements for Designated Forensic Psychologist in 104 CMR 33.04(3)(b).

Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.
