Deaf Community Services of San Diego, Inc. is Hiring a Peer Support Specialist Near National, CA

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Peer Support Specialist collaborates with the Clubhouse Manager to offer a diverse array of peer support services aimed at assisting members in reclaiming self-independence over their lives and advancing their recovery journey. PSS provides wrap around services in partnerships with local San Diego Mental health services, homelessness and shelters, as well as DCS’ other services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to and uphold the standards of DCS as mandated by its’ mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of service quality
  • Adhere to and uphold the standards of San Diego County OHPOH’s guiding principles and ethics
  • Participate in the intake/assessment process with members seeking support
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of client protected health information and other information and materials in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA
  • Lead support groups in health and wellness, co-occurring disorders, recovery planning, employment support, etc.
  • Case management of county required charts, reports, and outcome measures, entering County ClubHOMS database
  • Participate in the development of WRAP plans with members and treatment teams
  • Support and lead Program Advisory Group (PAG) with community members to learn about their interest, understanding of CH services and strengthening CH services.
  • Help organize monthly social activities open to members
  • Develop and assist members in developing community support and resources
  • Assist members in conducting daily activities with CH staff
  • Provide outreach and training to bring in members and maintain attendance at Clubhouse
  • Create ASL video vlogs on mental health related information and resources.
  • Assist with revision and replenishment of forms utilized, as needed
  • Attend staff meetings, county meetings, mandated trainings and support team meetings regularly
  • Maintain warm, welcoming office grounds and facilities

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • General office work, filing
  • Complete other duties as assigned by manager or Executive Director

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health field, Preferred. Other related degree such as in rehabilitation or social work
  • Preferred experience in behavioral health/mental health or social services work with DHH individuals
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health and recovery/SUD issues found within DHH populations
  • Knowledge of San Diego resources to support mental health, homelessness, etc and public transportation
  • Expected to complete peer support counseling training and other County required trainings
  • Access to reliable transportation

Skills:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Maintain HIPPA/Confidentiality of client information.
  • Required: work well in a team-oriented and culturally diverse environment
  • Flexibility and strong organizational skills
  • Understand and carry out verbal/written directions
  • Computer competency to maintain accurate records/files
  • Effective communication, including presentation skills
  • Able to maintain professional boundaries and composure in stressful environments

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
