Creative Minds International PCS is Hiring an Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) Teacher Near Washington, WA

Job Summary

Creative Minds International Public Charter School (CMIPCS) is currently seeking an Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) Teacher. The EML Teacher will play a pivotal role in supporting and instructing students who are emergent multilingual learners or those learning English as an additional language. You will work collaboratively with a team of dedicated educators to provide effective language instruction and support to students at various proficiency levels. 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Design and deliver effective language instruction to Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) based on their individual proficiency levels, using research-based instructional strategies and materials.
  2. Plan and implement engaging lessons that focus on developing the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  3. Assess and monitor the language proficiency and progress of EML students using appropriate assessment tools and strategies.
  4. Collaborate with general education teachers to develop strategies for differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of EML students in the general education classroom.
  5. Provide direct support and accommodations to EML students during general education classroom activities, ensuring equitable access to the curriculum. 
  6. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that values cultural diversity and promotes the social-emotional development of EML students.
  7. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on their child's progress, address concerns, and offer strategies to support language development at home.
  8. Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in language acquisition and instructional strategies.
  9. Collaborate with the EML team to collect and analyze data on EML student outcomes and contribute to ongoing program evaluation and improvement efforts.
  10. Other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Possession of or eligibility for a valid District of Columbia Teaching Certificate or License (standard or provisional) 
  • Prior experience teaching emergent multilingual learners in a diverse classroom setting is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and materials for language acquisition.
  • Familiarity with language proficiency assessments and data analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Cultural competence and the ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
