Nassau County Department of Public Works is seeking applicants for the position of Vector Control Inspector I.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Inspects an assigned area for signs of any animals or insects considered pests or disease vectors, as part of a program to limit the spread of pathogens; performs related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1. Inspects an assigned area for signs of any animals or insects considered pests or disease vectors, as part of a program to limit the spread of pathogens.

2. Inspects possible breeding sites or infestations in assigned area at regular intervals.

3. Inspects private premises upon request and advises homeowners as to proper methods of extermination and control.

4. Collects and identifies specimens of pests and disease vectors.

5. Arranges for the removal of obstructions in streams, ditches, and culverts.

6. Prepares records of work completed, materials and labor utilized.

7. Maintains breeding site records and maps.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of methods of control of various species of pests, vermin, and disease vectors.

2. Knowledge of the nesting, breeding, and feeding habits of pests, vermin, and disease vectors.

3. Knowledge of topography of county.

4. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience

1. Graduation from high school

Necessary Special Requirement

1. Continuing possession of a current, valid certificate from the New York State Department of Environmental conservation as a Certified Category 8 Commercial Pesticide Technician.

2. Continuing possession of an appropriate class, valid Driver License issued by the State of New York.
