Overview

This position performs technical duties in support of the Industrial Pretreatment Program and the Watershed Protection Plan.

  • Assists the Environmental Manager in the coordination of the Industrial Pretreatment Program; coordinates the collection of samples from industries that discharge into the Mud Creek Pollution Control Plant and the Withlacoochee Water Pollution Control Plant.
  • Installs equipment to monitor and collect pollutants from industrial sites and manufacturing plants.
  • Performs field tests at industrial sites.
  • Performs system sampling as required by plant NPDES permits, the sanitary sewer overflow program and the Watershed Protection Program.
  • Installs equipment to monitor and collect stream samples for the Watershed Protection Plan; performs related field tests.
  • Coordinates public outreach and educational programs related to the Watershed Protection Plan; schedules, publicizes and leads stream walks.
  • Identifies and documents illicit discharges.
  • Maintains industrial sampling records, equipment calibration and repair logs, daily logs, investigative reports, and other required records.
  • Visually inspects industrial and commercial grease traps and pretreatment devices/sampling stations for proper operations and maintenance; documents ordinance violations.
  • Performs related duties.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of program policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of discharge monitoring and analysis methods, tools and principles.
  • Knowledge of safe work principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of water sampling methods.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Skill in the performance of standard mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in the operation of a variety of job-specific tools and equipment.
  • Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
