Children on the Green is Hiring a Substitute Pre-K Teacher (Temporary) Near Morristown, NJ

Children on the Green is seeking a substitute teacher with a substitute certification starting late August until November.

Position Summary: Responsible for planning and implementing the daily routines in the early pre-k and pre-k classroom, for engaging preschoolers in developmental activities, supervising the assistants, and ensuring the safety of all children by performing the following duties.

The teacher is also responsible for planning and executing an educational program that reflects the beliefs and philosophies of Children on the Green.

Specific Duties:

  • Health and Safety
  • Comply with all Licensing and COG health and safety standards/policies/procedures
  • Ensure the classroom and bathroom are clean and sanitary
  • Wash toys and equipment as needed
  • Be familiar with our emergency procedures and be ready to implement them if necessary
  • Comply Grow NJ Kids regulations and standards
  • Ensure the classroom/playground area is free of clutter (e.g. no broken furniture, outlets are covered, no exposed wires, etc.)
  • Follow proper diapering procedures
  • Follow proper table washing procedures
  • Label and date children’s food items or water bottlers and store properly

Curriculum

  • Implement the Creative Curriculum
  • Plan weekly lesson plans using Teaching Strategies Gold (due every Thursday)
  • Post a physical copy of the lesson plan in the classroom
  • Follow classroom/playground schedule
  • Maintains children's observation and documentation using Gold
  • Meet developmental report timeframes and child assessments
  • Plan and collaborate on activities with the teacher assistant

Classroom

  • Ensure the classroom is organized and clean
  • Ensure all containers and shelves are labeled with words (in English and Spanish) and pictures
  • Change bulletin board monthly
  • Maintain a room arrangement that is safe, developmentally appropriate and stimulating and according to state licensing and ITERS/ECERS standards

Classroom Management

  • Record daily attendance accurately
  • Take attendance record with the class on all walks, field trips and playground/gym time.
  • Responsible for delegating classroom responsibilities
  • Supervise assistant teachers
  • Maintain classroom records, including illness log, accident reports, and student emergency information

Children Relationships

  • Provide a safe, loving and nurturing environment.
  • Supervise and interact with the children in all areas of the program, outdoors, in the gym, and during field trips away from the program.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences
  • Build relationships of trust with the children that will facilitate communication and learning
  • Implement developmentally appropriate behavior interventions

Parent Relationships

  • Hold parent/teacher conferences twice yearly and as needed
  • Keep parents informed of classroom activities through monthly newsletter
  • Maintain a positive, professional relationship with all families
  • Inform of daily activities through tracking sheets, wipe off boards or written posters
  • Communicate children’s needs to parents

Staff Relationships

  • Set an example of professional behavior and appropriate communication
  • Share housekeeping responsibilities with other teachers and assistants to maintain clean orderly and workable rooms
  • Communicates lesson plans to other staff in your room and daily activities
  • Communicates children’s needs to other staff members and to parents

Professional Development

  • Be committed to your own professional development as an early childhood educator
  • Attend trainings as required (health and safety, child development, curriculum, e.g.) and as chosen by you to augment your learning
  • Track training hours in NJCCIS
  • Complete the required 20 hours of training during a school year
  • Check for daily announcements and information from directors

Classroom Technology

  • Brightwheel: Use to communicate with parents, staff and directors' daily
  • Ipads: able to use for Brightwheel and Teaching Strategies

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $130.00 per day

Grade levels:

  • Pre-Kindergarten

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to Relocate:

  • Morristown, NJ 07960: Relocate before starting work (Required)
