Do you have a passion for horses and a knack for keeping things calm under pressure? Then saddle up for an exciting opportunity with Cherokee Nation Entertainment at Will Rogers Downs Cherokee Casino in Claremore, Oklahoma!

As an Assistant Starter, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and safe running of our horse races. You'll work closely with the horses, assisting with saddling them before the race, and leading them calmly into the starting gate. Your keen eye for detail will be essential in maintaining the starting area and ensuring the safety of both horses and jockeys.

What You’ll Do

• Team up with fellow horsemen and horsewomen to saddle the racers.
• Become a calming presence, keeping the horses relaxed before the big race.
• Ensure the starting gate is functioning flawlessly for a safe and fair start.
• Maintain the starting area for optimal race conditions.
• Contribute to the overall success of our exciting racing events!

You’re a Perfect Fit If

• You have a basic understanding of horse racing rules and starting procedures.
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working as part of a team.
• High School Diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related experience (or a combination of education and experience)
• Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission License: You'll need to obtain and maintain this to officially join the crew.

Work Environment Disclosure:

• Gear Up & Get Loud: This job involves some exposure to second-hand smoke, bright lights, and exciting racing noise. (Think behind-the-scenes at the Kentucky Derby!)
• Horsing Around: Be prepared to handle average weight objects up to 50 lbs., like hay bales or equipment.
• Stay on Your Feet: This role requires some standing or walking throughout the day (Up to 8 hrs.) to keep things running smoothly.
• Safety First: You'll be provided with proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep you safe, and following safety procedures is a must!

• 12 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Weekends as needed
