Printing and Finishing Press Operator Apprentice

Onsite in SLC, UT

 Calyx Containers exists to solve some of the largest problems facing the budding cannabis industry: packaging and inventory management. Rooted in the cannabis industry, our passion is transforming how people transport, brand, and consume the products they love. We’ve developed a suite of packaging products for flower, concentrates, joints, in addition to a modular tray system designed to standardize the transportation and reconciliation process. We’ve made it easier for industries requiring child-resistant packaging to be compliant in a unique and modern way.

The HP Indigo & Finishing Press Operator Apprentice Is responsible for operating HP Indigo and finishing presses to produce quality labels and flexible packaging. S/he will maintain the safety, quality, maintenance of the equipment and ensure good manufacturing practices. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and the desire to learn the label and flexible packaging production process. This role reports to the Production Manager.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and Perform setup and operation of HP Indigo and finishing presses.
  • Ensure the press room is stocked with needed supplies, i.e., ink, film, stock, etc.
  • Maintain and clean press before and after each shift.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of problems during machine operation.
  • Ensure that regular and preventative maintenance procedures are carried out.
  • Ensure all safety devices and guards are fully operational and that safety procedures are being observed. 
  • Ensure that machines are producing quality products by managing periodic checks on output. 
  • Record all production performance, counts, downtime and other quality or production related information as required.
  • Meet specified production performance targets.
  • Participate in production process improvement efforts.
  • Visually inspect products for quality checks, registration, ink coverage, and numbering sequence.
  • Perform calibrations and maintain consistent output of color, finish and registration.
  • Assist in QC, Shipping and Delivery when needed to maintain a proper lead time for all products.
  • Other duties as assigned
 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduate, or completion of GED required
  • A passion for learning and growth in the packaging industry.
  • Ability to be technically and mechanically oriented with strong computer skills 
  • Perform all work and activities with honesty and integrity
  • Take personal responsibility for productivity, quality and timeliness of work
  • Effectively communicate (and listen) clearly, professionally, politely and persuasively in all situations; respond well and in a reasonable, timely manner
  • Challenge conventional practices and use creativity and information to lead, innovate, problem solve, and implement ideas to contribute to the growth of the organization
  • Support and meet company/department goals and core values
  • Collaborate with co-workers to achieve common goals
