POSITION TITLE: Jiu-Jitsu Martial Arts Instructor

SUPERVISOR: Program Director

HOURS: Flexible hours (Contractual - pay will vary)

LOCATION: Recreation Center

ABOUT CHPD:

Chicago Heights Park District provides quality recreation programs, facilities and parks that meet leisure needs and improve the quality of life for Chicago Heights residents. We promote and maintain community partnerships, intergovernmental and corporate relationships while providing quality employment opportunities at the Chicago Heights Park District.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Jiu-Jitsu instructors teach not only a set of physical skills and fighting techniques, but also instill core values of martial arts. Instructors expose the participants to values such as discipline, perseverance and integrity which are integral parts of martial arts and make a lasting, positive effect in the lives of the participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Plans, develops, supervises, and evaluates Jujitsu classes.

· Conducts classes setting the atmosphere required to effectively utilize the skills and values of Jiu-jitsu.

  • Adapts lessons considering participant abilities and skill development.
  • Evaluate participants’ performances with proper techniques and provide constructive feedback.
  • Organizes and secures equipment after use.
  • Provides leadership, instruction, and motivation while teaching.
  • Demonstrates techniques and helps participants perfect their own techniques.
  • Monitors participants' progress and prepares them to advance in rank.
  • Builds effective and authentic relationships with members.
  • Prepares and conducts lessons.
  • Motivates participants in working toward their goals.
  • Develops participant confidence in their abilities.
  • Ensures the room is clean and tidy.
  • Maintains a current knowledge and awareness of principles, practices, regulations and procedures of the park and recreation department; maintains an awareness of current trends and advances in the profession.
  • Monitors participants to ensure prevention of accidents and injuries.
  • Adheres to all Safety Policies and Procedures of the Park District; utilizes precaution with safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of participants.
  • Presents a positive attitude and promotes a favorable image of the CHPD at all times.
  • Fosters open communication with parents and participants as the liaison for the Park District.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Certified and experience in teaching Jiu-Jitsu Martial Arts
  • Mastery of Jiu-Jitsu techniques.
  • Ability to perform techniques and teach it to participants in different age groups.
  • Knowledge of and being able to teach the values and history of Martial Arts.
  • Energetic and cheerful outlook.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to motivate and encourage participants.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Possess a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the prerequisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
