    Shift Supervisor – Production

    The Shift Supervisor-Production reports to the Director of Bakery Operations

    Job Description

    The Shift Supervisor - Production manages all baking staff during an assigned shift: including the management of mixer, bench (and assistants), oven operator and lunch break positions for 4 operating lines. This position is responsible for the effective utilization of employees, equipment and materials, training, production, quality, safety, and employee relations. The Shift Supervisor - Production understands and implements applicable regulations (GMP’s, quality systems, etc.) and standard operating procedures for all personnel on their shift.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Responsible for correct (within specification) mixing, bench/stretching, and oven operation on 4 lines during assigned shift.
    • Oversees all shift employees arrive on time, and leave on time, minimizing overtime and approves all timesheets of direct reports on a weekly basis.
    • Ensuring products are made using accurate formulations, shape/length, scoring, oven temperatures/times to customer specifications.
    • Follows the daily production schedule and total counts for each dough while finding solutions for minimizing product waste and employee overtime.
    • Communicates frequently with counterpart, Shift Supervisor – Packaging, to ensure products are meeting quality standards as they move to packaging and alerting Shift Supervisor – Packaging to any issues/errors, human or mechanical for products coming down the line.
    • Communicates all maintenance needs to the Maintenance Tech for repair – extensive issues or damage to equipment to Maintenance Manager.
    • Reports known quality issues to the Quality Control Associate on the shift, so that the Associate can make proactive communication with customers.
    • Inspects equipment and work areas for proper sanitation, condensation control, etc.
    • Responsible for understanding, communicating, and ensuring employees follow all food safety and quality protocols during their shift.
    • Oversees the training of all new employees in proper methods and procedures to perform their assigned job. Continues to develop and lead employees with on-going training.
    • Reports ideas for improvement and problems with basic operations/employees in monthly supervisor meetings with Director of Bakery Operations. 
    • Carries out necessary formal discipline for performance, behavior, attendance points, and food safety issues in a timely manner. Records all issued disciplines with Director of Bakery Operations.

    Qualifications

    • Prior experience in management preferred
    • Ability to correctly operate all equipment and understand SOPs for all positions throughout bakery
    • Effectively communicate GMP’s, workplace safety, and all company policies and procedures
    • High school degree or equivalent
    • Strong Communication skills; verbal and written
    • Good practical understanding of large volume baking equipment and factors driving efficiency
