Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte is Hiring a Housing Navigator – Supportive Services for Veteran Families Near Charlotte, NC

POSITION SUMMARY
The Housing Navigator plays a crucial role in the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program. The primary duty of the Housing Navigator is to assist eligible veterans to identify and secure safe and affordable housing options. The Housing Navigator maintains primary responsibility developing, cultivating, and nurturing housing leads and resources by collaborating with community agencies, landlords, property management companies, and real estate brokers. The Housing Navigator facilitates the landlord/tenant relationship and ensures that eligible veterans are connected to services that contribute to a successful housing placement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Seek and establish relationships with community agencies, landlords, property management companies, and real estate brokers to build a comprehensive network of housing opportunities.
2. Assist eligible veterans in locating suitable housing.
3. Develop and maintain a database of available housing stock for veterans with a HUD VASH voucher.
4. Maintain a current database of potential resources for eligible veterans.
5. Assist eligible unhoused veterans with housing applications, rental assistance unit identification, recertifications and relocation.
6. Assist eligible veterans with owner/tenant compliance standards.
7. Negotiate with landlords and real estate agents to obtain vacant apartments.
8. Maintain required administrative records and statistical data as required.
9. Conduct property inspections based on Habitability Standards (as needed)
10. Guide eligible veterans through the housing search process, considering their specific needs and preferences.
11. Facilitate positive landlord/tenant relationship.
12. Connect eligible veterans with relevant support services that contribute to their overall well-being and housing stability.
13. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of activities and services.
14. Provide regular reports on progress and challenges encountered in the housing navigation process.
15. Collaborate with team members to provide case management services.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates in agency trainings, staff meetings, and events; attends training and development activities as directed.
2. Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred.
2. Minimum of two years of human services case management experience is preferred.
3. Two or more years of experience in the field of property management or previous experience as a housing specialist.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Awareness of the “housing first” model.
2. Knowledge of the local real estate market and a thorough understanding of HUD housing regulations.
3. Ability to proficiently maintain automated housing database(s), ensuring accuracy and accessibility of information.
4. Awareness of the issues that affect the target population.
5. Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written format.
6. Ability to relate to and interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
7. Intermediate computer and technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft 365.
8. Valid NC Driver’s License, with ability to maintain diocesan driving privileges.
9. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT Responsibilities of the Housing Navigator involve travel and work beyond the regularly scheduled workday. Weekend work and weekend travel may be required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
