Boys and Girls Club of Newport County is Hiring a R3 Camp Teacher (Part-Time) Near Newport, RI

Students involved in the Reading Reaps Rewards (R3) program at Camp Grosvenor benefit from daily
literacy instruction provided by Newport County certified teachers and academic enrichment activities
provided by youth development professionals. R3 provides children, and in particular those most in
need of academic and social interventions, with access to opportunities that would otherwise not be
available to them.

Position Description: R3 Summer Camp Teachers will help create and implement an 8-week program
that addresses and prevents the Summer Slide with youth ages six to ten years old. The R3 program will
engage teachers in planning fun, academically enriching activities that align to literacy standards and
prevent summer learning loss. Teachers must coordinate their curriculum, supported by a Technical
Advisor, to ensure that the intention and goals of the program plans are consistent.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to development of youth between 6-10 years old
  • Rhode Island Teaching Certificate, Elementary School age license preferred
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written are required
  • Goal oriented person
  • Positive role model for members
  • Report properly attired and on time to work
  • Must complete mandatory background checks (BCI, CANTS, Fingerprints)

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement an 8-week program for youth that is engaging, interesting and utilizes a curriculum.
  • Each teacher will be assigned 1 pod of up to 24 youth that will implement lessons at our Camp
Grosvenor in Saunderstown
  • Implement and/or support implementation of the STAR Assessment or other required
assessments at the end of the summer with all Newport Youth
  • Engage in planning, training and professional development (approximately 15 hours). Teachers
will be paid $300.00 for all PD that occurs between May and the beginning of camp
  • Redirect inappropriate behaviors by approaching members in a professional manner
  • Encourage and provide an opportunity for activities and programs that are current, fun, positive,
structured, and meaningful
  • Develop professional relationships between other staff and members
  • Support the collection of Parent/caregiver surveys, student surveys, facilitator surveys
  • Participate in a quality observation performed by the evaluator and administrator at Pell

Elementary School.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Sitting, standing, active up and down within area. Running, bending, swimming, throwing and other

camp related movements.

Terms of Employment

Teachers will be paid $30.00 hourly for up to 30 hours of program weekly. The schedule is Monday -

Friday from 9:30 to 3:30. Camp will run July 1 (no camp 7/4, 7/5) through August 23.
