General Porter

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Job purpose

Beatrice Mayes Institute is seeking a General Porter to complete the following duties and responsibilities:

• Assist with setting up and breaking down equipment for events and meetings.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment as needed.
• Assist with deliveries and distribute supplies throughout the facility.
• Ensure assigned maintenance requests are completed in a timely manner.
• Assist in ensuring the safety of the facility and report hazards.
• Operate facility vehicles to complete transport assignments.
• Assist with food preparation and storage for daily meals.
• Assists in receiving food deliveries and waste management.
• Provide assistance to students, staff and visitors as needed.
• Attend meetings, in-service training and workshops as assigned.
• Performs other related work as assigned.

Other attributes needed and desired for this role are:

• Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience in facilities and kitchen maintenance or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and safe driving record.
• Must be able to pass a Background Check working for a school.
• Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
• Good communication and Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Ability to work independently, a self-starter and as a part of a team.

Knowledge of sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance is a plus.

Working conditions

Indoor/Outdoor environment. Subject to changing temperatures (cold/hot) based on the assigned duties.

Physical requirements

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment and may include outdoor tasks.
• Ability to carry and/or lift-up to 50 pounds.
• The position may require standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and bending for extended periods.
• The role may include early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends.

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
• 1-hour lunch break
• Occasional weekends and after hours

Pay: $12.50 - $13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
