Benchmark Masonry is Hiring a Journeyman Mason Near Lewistown, MT

POSITION: Journeyman Mason
WAGES: $35-$45/hour
Journeyman Masons are paid using a scale based on aptitude, skill, and years of experience.
MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVER LICENSE WITH A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD.LOCATION:
  • Benchmark Masonry is headquartered in Lewistown, MT but most projects are outside of the Lewistown area and some are out of state.
  • All job related travel expenses are paid for by employer, as well as per diem pay.
Because we are working all over the state and some out of state, we do offer some masons the availability to live outside of our headquartered (Lewistown, MT) area. Those masons are able to choose which projects and locations they wish to work, and typically meet the crew on site.

Days/Hours
  • Days worked are Monday-Friday if schedule is 8 hour days.
  • Days worked are Monday-Thursday if schedule is 10 hour days.
Qualifications
  • Must have a valid driver license and a clean driving record.
  • A Journeyman Mason must be able to work with brick, block and/or stone completing custom work on distinctive projects.
  • Must have 3-5 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Journeyman masons need to have above average skill and speed in laying brick, block and/or stone.
  • A Mason is required to complete work safely, with quality and within productivity specifications as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Must be reliable and hardworking.
  • Required to have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel in a repetitive motion; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, including working on hands and knees for extended periods of time.
  • Work in high, precarious places such as scaffolding and ladders.
  • Work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat or cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy are a plus.
DutiesA Journeyman Mason must be able to display a variety of masonry skills. Including:
  • Participating and collaborating with the crew during daily meetings to ensure safety, quality and productivity goals are set.
  • Ensure proper installation of wall ties, flashings and laps of paper to job specific standards.
  • Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work, using plumb bobs and levels.
  • Shape brick, block, or stone in preparation for final setting with use of chisels and/or power saws.
  • Spread mortar ensuring joints of uniform thickness.
  • Spread mortar over brick, block, or stone and foundation with trowel and set masonry in place by hand or with aid of a forklift or a crane.
  • Fasten or fuse brick or other building material to structure with wire clamps, anchors, or cement.
  • Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools, for a sealed, uniform appearance.
  • Construct corners by building a corner lead of bricks, and filling in between the corners using a line from corner to corner to guide each course; Lay and align bricks, blocks, or tiles to build or repair structures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Must observe all safety procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Must be able to follow instructions precisely, and work with others in an organized manner.
  • Follows all company standards based on the employee handbook, drug & alcohol policy, and safety policies.
Tools
  • Required to provide own masonry tools. A tool list will be provided upon hire.
  • Saws and Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied.
