Baptist Homes is seeking a full time/part time Cook. The Cook is part of and functions in the context of the Dietary Department of Baptist Homes and Healthcare Ministries. The cook performs general and routine food preparation and delivery procedures to provide for the maximum physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of each resident. Expectations of All Employees:
Qualifications:
1. Preferred high school diploma or GED
2. Ability to practice kitchen safety, wear personal protective equipment and practice infection control.
3. Abilities to cook, prepare and deliver foods in a clean, appetizing and attractive manner.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
1. Wash hands thoroughly with hot soapy water before starting work, after using restroom and after touching any uncovered area of your body and as needed.
2. Must wear hairnet when on duty.
3. Prepare special snacks and foods (ex. Diabetic, etc.) according to menu instructions.
4. Cook and prepare foods according to menu instructions.
5. Assist with dishing up the food at the appropriate time and according to schedule.
6. Wipe off tops of all cans before opening. After opening cans, use rubber spatula to get all the food out of the containers. Please note: food must never be left in original cans, but transferred to plastic containers and stored properly. (note if refrigeration is needed)
7. Use correct utensils when dipping up food (ex. 4oz spoon for most items such as vegetables and casseroles)
8. Give feed back to dietary supervisor with regards to problems in the dining room, such as resident seating conflicts, resident with wheel chairs/walkers, etc.
9. Be observant to not use cracked, chipped, stained or soiled dishes or silverware.
10. Cleans up messes as the occur. Clean up is an on-going process. If a mess is made, clean it up as quickly as possible.
11. Make sure left-over foods that have not been served are properly labeled and stored in walk-in cooler or reach-in refrigerator.
12. Do not put sharp knives in any container of water. Wash them as knives are used and store them away properly to not endanger others.
13. Do not save any food served to residents, except for foods in sealed products, unopened such as jelly, sugar, etc.
14. Do not give any food to residents to take back to their rooms. If a resident takes food to their room please inform the charge nurse so that food will not be spoiled in their room or become a potential choking hazard.'
