Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key executive team member responsible for the Cooperative’s overall financial health and financial planning. The individual in this position develops and maintains relationships with lenders and other financial partners and stakeholders while providing direction for short- and long-term financial planning. In addition to financial management, the CFO collaborates with the Executive team in developing Cooperative’s strategic priorities, goals, and metrics. The CFO will be responsible for identifying potential risks to the organization and mitigating those risks. The CFO provides leadership, ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations, financial reporting and auditing requirements and exemplifies Cooperative’s mission and core values.

Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain positive relationships with lenders, investors, and other financial partners to ensure adequate lending is available as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of rate design and cost of service
  • Thorough knowledge of taxation of Cooperatives. Develop and oversee the implementation of short- and long-term financial planning.
  • Oversee internal controls to avoid, deter, or detect fraud or abuse of Cooperative assets.
  • Develop the budget and financial forecasts to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure the financial health of the Cooperative.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the budgeting process, including development, implementation, forecasting, variance analysis, and expense management.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends and make recommendations for investment opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards, including financial reporting and auditing requirements
  • Assist the Executive team in the development of strategic priorities, goals and metrics for the organization.
  • Collaborate with Executive Team to identify and assess potential risks and mitigation actions for the Cooperative.
  • Identify, develop, and oversee implementation of opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Drive execution of the financial goals of the Cooperative
  • Manage the overall financial operation of the organization including accounting, procurement, and cost accounting teams.
  • Manage teams and provide leadership, development, and performance management guidance as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis including understanding and interpreting financial statements and reports.
  • Expertise in understanding regulations and compliance requirements in the electric utility industry
  • Expertise in accounting principles and practices
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software and tools
  • Expertise in leading, motivating and developing teams.
  • Conflict Resolution Skills.
  • Decision-making and judgment skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to evaluate financial performance and identify areas of improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate financial information to senior management and board of directors.
  • Ability to make strategic financial decisions and provide financial guidance to senior management.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field required
  • Advanced degree in relevant field preferred
  • Ability to obtain CPA License required within 12 months of hire date

Experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience in an equivalent position or
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in finance, accounting, and/or administrative field at an electric utility with a minimum of 5 years at the senior management level

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and related insurance
  • Must pass background and drug screening
