The Best Bees Company is on a mission to improve bee health. We are looking for a Shop Manager, internally referred to as Deck Chief, with experience in managing diverse teams to bring us closer to this goal. Our ideal candidate is proactive, responsive, and enjoys in-person management of a hands-on team.

The Field Operations Department at Best Bees has a field and shop component. The field component consists of our beehive management, while the shop component entails ensuring that beekeeping materials are built and maintained. Shop and field are integral parts of Best Bees and work together. Direction will be given by the Head Beekeeper when it relates to preparedness for our beekeepers.

While this role is not a beekeeping position, familiarity with bees is a plus, and comfort around honey bees is a must. The Shop Manager/Deck Chief will report to the Head Beekeeper. This individual will have responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:

** **Responsibilities****

* Sets weekly list of shop duties and submits work ahead of time to the Head Beekeeper

* Assigns shop work and duties to staff

* Updates weekly/daily changes in assignments

* Works with and communicates with Head Beekeeper and Operations Manager to ensure all necessary shop work is completed

* Ensures loading and unloading of the fleet is on schedule

* Works with the Head Beekeeper and Operations Manager to ensure adequate staffing and coverage for work in the shop

* Improves the abilities, skills, and knowledge of shop staff through appropriate instruction and training to grow the depth of the team

* Encourages team members to grow in their roles and assume greater responsibilities

* Ensures accountability in the shop (addressing concerns, identifying error/confusion, corrective action)

* Keeps track of our fleet of work vehicles, documenting issues, and taking the necessary steps to keep them on the road

** **Qualifications****

* 1 year of management experience or evidence of progressive responsibilities

* Strong leadership, team building, and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines

* Excellent decision-making and judgment capabilities

* Exceptional organizational skills

* Technical literacy and proficiency with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar) or similar collaborative platforms

* Strong communication skills, comfortable with addressing problems as they arise.

* Ability to switch gears quickly and adapt to our fast pace and unpredictable work environment

* Valid Drivers License with a good driving record

* Proof of COVID vaccination

* Possess the physical abilities of lifting, bending, squatting, standing for extended periods
