Local Operations Dispatcher

Summary of Job:

This position is responsible for directing the picking up and delivering of freight in the most efficient manner possible. This includes receiving and processing orders, answering phones, providing back-up support to co-workers in the office and other various customer service tasks.

Job Duties:

1. Responsible for directing the picking up and delivery of freight by assigning loads to drivers via phone or radio.

2. Process orders received via email or fax machine

3. Use the logistics software to enter and process orders.

4. Maintain all data and records relative to shipping and receiving activities of the local operations.

5. Strictly adhering to standard operating procedures to ensure the accuracy of all shipping and receiving documents.

6. Provide predetermined rates to customers.

7. Monitor driver work hours to ensure they operate within company standards.

8. Ensure drivers comply with Department of Transportation’s regulations that relate to hours of service requirements and taking adequate breaks.

9. Answer phones.

10. Assisting customers (both internal and external) with problems as they arise.

11. Building unloading paperwork for cross dock operation

12. Scanning and filing bills.

13. Rotating every other Thursday/Friday night helping the tower and the office.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to Local Operations Manager. Supervises no one.

Even though this position does not have supervisory capacity for drivers, dispatchers control driver work flow. This means the dispatcher can make decisions about how many hours a driver works. If, in the dispatcher’s opinion, a driver requires some sort of disciplinary action, the dispatcher has the ability to send a driver home until such time as the Local Operations Manager is available to make a decision about a driver’s ability to work.

Qualifications:

• Excellent communication skills
• High School Graduate
• Data Entry experience
• Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook experience
• General knowledge of local geography to include highway system
• The ability to work varied hours depending on company needs
• Previous Experience as a Truck Driver preferred
• Past forklift driving experience preferred

Physical Demands:

• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.

Work Environment:

• Work performed in a combination of office and warehouse environments.
• In rare cases, exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes and cold temperatures.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
