Position Overview

The LVN/LPT provides professional standard nursing services during medical detoxification and residential treatment. As a patient advocate, the LVN will also provide medical assessments and psycho-social support to patients and families. The LVN/LPT helps clients manage and overcome mental and emotional disorders and problems with their family and relationships. Help clients understand their problems and develop strategies to improve their lives. Provide family counseling, medication and treatment services in a substance abuse program. LVN/LPT works closely with the providers and alcohol and drug counselors to coordinate services.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides nursing services including: patient self-administration of medications and treatments clients as directed by the providers. Also facilitates referrals to other providers and community health resources, health instruction and medication education.
  • Oversees the smooth progression of daily patient schedules, monitors clients medically and assists in taking of vital signs of clients. Assists provider with examination and procedures as requested.
  • Documents current medication list, including name(s) of medications, dosages, frequency, duration and start date. Assists in medication and treatment as prescribed through written Provider orders, and documents in the clients medical chart.
  • Encourage individuals and family members to develop and use skills and strategies for confronting their problems in a constructive manner.
  • Maintain case files that include activities, progress notes, evaluations and recommendation.
  • Determine whether clients should be counseled or referred to other specialists in such fields as medicine and/or psychiatry.
  • Keeping up to date technically and applying new knowledge (i.e., attending conferences and workshops related to the most current data and information).

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking clients’ medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor instructions, accurately documenting clients medical information. Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Intermediate to advanced computing and phone skills.
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions” and demonstrated professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to work on an as-needed basis in order to meet operational needs of the facility.
  • Current, valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Psychiatric Technician preferred.
  • Valid CA drivers license and CPR/ First required.
  • Clear Background check and Drug Test.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as an LVN/LPT or experience in the field of Substance Use Disorders or Mental Health preferred. Those in a nursing program will be considered.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

  • 3x12
  • Weekends as needed
