Historic New England is Hiring a Remote Regional Site Administrator, Metro Boston

Historic New England seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and inclusive collaborator for the role of Regional Site Administrator, Metro Boston. Overseeing all public activities involving nine Historic New England historic sites in Metro Boston, the Regional Site Administrator serves as the leader of the Metro Boston regional work group while leading the planning, budgeting, implementation, and operation of regional site activities.

Classification: Full time; Exempt

Location: Lyman Estate, Waltham, Massachusetts; Partial remote option; New England residency required

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

The Regional Site Administrator will serve as a key staff member in the redevelopment of Otis House, with the goal of reimagining the site for enhanced visitor experience and use as well as serving as a gateway to the neighborhood and all that Historic New England has to offer.

  • Manages daily operations at three Metro Boston sites (Otis House in Boston, Lyman Estate in Waltham, Mass. and Browne House in Watertown, Mass.). Initiates and manages efforts to fulfill organizational strategic goals in the region through innovative marketing, public programs, general tours, group tours, private events, constituent and donor relations, and community relations.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises house guides, volunteers and interns working closely with Metro Boston lead guides. Trains interpreters on tour content, guide professionalism, point-of-sale technology, and security measures as well as handling objects and preventive care. Ensures the best possible visitor experience by regular assessment of all public services including regular evaluation of guides and soliciting ongoing feedback from visitors.
  • Initiates, develops, markets, implements, and evaluates innovative interpretive and educational public programs.
  • Serves as the first line in monitoring for pest management, property care and collection concerns. Helps coordinate on-site property and collections care work.
  • Develops local marketing plans and executes local promotion. Promotes the sale of Historic New England memberships to meet goals.
  • Prepares visitation, financial, and operations reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. American history, business, art or cultural history, historic preservation or museum studies) or equivalent combination of skilled credentials.
  • Four years of related work experience with non-profit institutions managing historic site operations, including financial skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience, problem solving ability, and familiarity with team approach and multi-tasking.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, including both verbal and written communications.
  • Well organized and highly detail-oriented; able to handle shifting priorities and multiple projects simultaneously and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Fully competent computer skills, including use of MS Office suite software for word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation.
  • New England residency required.
  • Strong belief in, and demonstrated commitment to, Historic New England’s mission.

Salary:$55,000-$58,000 plus benefits
