General qualifications include● Possess a wide range of communication skills, including past news media or comparable experience, excellent writing &editing skills with history in making good journalistic media decisions, sometimes talking to the media● Ability to develop attractive and easy-to-understand content and graphics with basic software, including AdobePhotoshop, Canva and SMORE, Google Workspace● Video/Audio editing skills a plus● Must be available to work as needed, with the focus of the work being in late July through May● Have a good understanding of local school districts and how they operateWork closely in a confidential manner with Superintendent/administrators on information to be released to thepublic and/or issues● Be available to discuss by phone, email and text matters that regularly popup● Occasionally meet in person to discuss upcoming projects, special events, potentially controversial issues● Review materials, provide feedback, discuss strategies● Have Superintendent or designated person review content before its releaseManage Social Media Channels for One (1) Facebook Page and One (1) Instagram Account● Post regularly, being aware of school district happenings based on calendar and emails● Accept and edit content/ideas from administration and staff● Serve as advisor for other district social media pages● Monitor comments in the event that something controversial pops up● Post material on weekends when teams/students are competing● Create content for the Social Media/webpagesManage Website● Develop and update relevant content for the school district’s website as well as the other six schools.● Must understand content management systems● Understand branding concepts and stay within the District/High School guidelines● Work closely with District’s IT DepartmentSend out regular newsletters● Monthly staff newsletters via SMORE (not June or July)● Monthly (sometimes twice monthly) parent newsletters via SMORE (not June or July)● Quarterly public newsletter in hard copy that is mailed to all patrons via CanvaWrite press releases● Interview and develop press releases that can be sent to parents via newsletters, shared on social media, placed on theweb and submitted to local media outlets, depending on agreed distribution with the superintendent● Provide fact-based information regarding bond/supplemental elections● Work closely with the superintendent regarding proposed bond/supplemental elections● Manage web page● Develop materialsSubmit monthly news to the Gazette● Gather monthly content for the local newspaper, The GazetteCommunicate with other school public information folks● Stay in touch with other public school information/communication officers to stay current on trends or issues that mayarise, attend annual state meeting if possible
