Description

The Employment Specialist provides high quality customer service, such as skills training, mentoring, job search assistance, placement, career development, retention, and career advancement to Youth & Adult Literacy Program students, while meeting the needs of the businesses. In addition, the Specialist assists program students in their efforts of becoming active, wage-earning members of the workforce by generating positive employment and/or vocational experiences with ongoing support, in addition to pre-vocation instruction and career training.

This is a full-time, grant funded position, ending June 30, 2024.
Examples of Duties
  1. Engages consumers and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community settings.
  2. Provides education and support to employers and organizations, as agreed upon by consumers, which may include negotiating job accommodations.
  3. Maintains accurate and timely documentation for the Rowan College of South Jersey Youth & Adult Literacy Programs.
  4. Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the consumers.
  5. Performs task/job analysis at the job site to break down the job responsibilities into teachable components and provides appropriate accommodations.
  6. Applies knowledge of program goals, labor market information, internet-based tools, wage and trend information regarding high growth and high wage industries and occupations, and workplace needs.
  7. Communicates with jobsite and acts as a liaison, if necessary, between employee and employer.
  8. Monitors and gauges customer progress through frequent communication with the employer.
  9. Monitors consumers' safety at the work site.
  10. Assists consumers in developing effective communication and proper workplace behavior/dress code.
  11. Maintains open communication with Director regarding student progress.
  12. Attends staff meetings, in-services, and trainings, as required.
  13. Assists with presentations and job fairs relating to employment activities.
  14. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Applicable experience in education and/or career readiness field required.
  • Valid driver's license, which is currently in good standing.
  • Ability to travel to multiple institutions, utilizing personal vehicle for travel.
  • Ability to use current applicable hardware and software, including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with variable hours, includes evenings.
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment

All full time staff employees earn sick, vacation and personal time off. The College also offers 14 calendar holidays.
Pension Benefits:
Participation in the New Jersey State Pension System is a requirement of employment. This position requires enrollment in the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) . PERS is a defined benefit plan available to full time employees. Medical: RCSJ offers its employees several health insurance options through the NJ State Health Benefit Program as a local education employer. All employees are required to contribute to the cost of their health benefits under Chapter 78, P.L. 2011.
Dental: The College offers dental insurance through Delta Dental with four plan options (base plan is free to employees).
Group Life Insurance:
Life Insurance is underwritten by the Prudential Insurance Company of America, Inc., and is provided as a result of pension membership. There is no cost to the member for this coverage. The State Treasurer is the official policyholder for all the Noncontributory Group Life Insurance, which is issued as Policy Number G-14800 .

Flexible Spending Accounts:
The flexible spending program allows you to deduct pre-tax dollars which can be used for co-pays, deductibles, dental, vision, and dependent day care. The medical limit is $2,650 per year, and the dependent care limit is $5,000 per year.

Tuition Reimbursement/Waiver- RCSJ offers tuition reimbursement for up to 12 credits per fiscal year. The College also offer a tuition waiver for RCSJ courses for employees and eligible dependents.
