Core Responsibilities:

The Marine educator for Surf Camp must be a multi-talented and energetic individual with a passion to develop and provide marine science instruction to our campers. Applicants must possess a dedication to marine stewardship, teaching, and inspiring youth.

  • Work as a team to provide marine science lessons to campers
  • Educate and excite youth about the various North Carolina coastal landscapes, flora, and fauna
  • Assist with the driving of camp vehicles
  • Set up and breakdown of lessons
  • Assist with coordination of arrival/departure of campers
  • Maintain healthy and open communication between interns, volunteers and employees at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, Fort Fisher Aquarium, Airlie Gardens and Children's Museum.
  • Ensure a safe place (both emotionally and physically) for all staff and campers

Requirements:

The candidate for this position must meet the following criteria:

  • Available from May 24th- August 16th
  • May 24th - May 31st - Mandatory staff training
  • June 3rd - August 16th - All Camp Sessions
  • Requires work on the 4th of July
  • Current certifications or willing to obtain prior to start: Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Able to pass a government background check, possess a U.S. driver’s license, and have a clean driving record
  • BA or BS in marine biology, environmental science/education related field (or working towards)
  • Experience in marine science, environmental education, summer camps, or related field.
  • Excellent physical condition to maintain energy and excitement during long, hot days
