Youth Shelters Family Services is Hiring a Youth Shelter Assistant Program Director Near Santa Fe, NM

The Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Program Director to join our team. This dynamic role involves overseeing daily operations, supporting staff, and ensuring the highest quality of care for our residents. What would my job responsibilities be?

Operational Support

  • Assist the Program Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Youth Emergency Shelter.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of shelter policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of the Shelter service definition, certification, and licensing requirements.
  • Supervise the maintenance of daily logs, records, and comprehensive case files for each participant.
  • Ensure the timely completion of monthly outcome reports and oversee the file maintenance procedures to guarantee compliance and accuracy.
  • Provide information and referral assistance regarding available support from appropriate social service agencies and/or community programs.
  • Provide oversight of facility and grounds including maintenance, vehicle inspection and maintenance, and ensuring all record keeping responsibilities of such are taken care of.
  • Supervise and assist when needed in providing case management services, including screening, intake, and discharge processes.

Program Development

  • Collaborate with the Program Director to develop and enhance program services and initiatives.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of staff training and development programs.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of trauma-informed care practices.
  • Proactively identify and recruit program participants and develop a comprehensive outreach program/plan.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise shelter staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations with the help of Program Director and Director of Human Resources.
  • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and mentorship to staff to ensure high standards of care.
  • Address staff concerns and issues promptly and effectively.
  • Creates a team environment that supports the program to ensure consistency, clarity and safety for youth and staff.

Client Services

  • Support the delivery of services to shelter residents, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development.
  • Assist in the assessment and intake process for new residents.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Oversee the life skills education, leadership opportunities, and activities to support the achievement of youths' personal goals.
  • Follow Nurtured Heart Approach and trauma-informed practices.
  • Facilitate trusting relationships with youth by responding to basic needs.
  • Provide supportive services to youth in accordance with plan in place.

What are the qualifications and experience I need to become a Assistant Program Director?

  • Experience with in-crisis, runaway and homeless youth.
  • 2-4 year of residential program experience, with leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Case management knowledge and or experience required.
  • Proficient with computer software skills including Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent oral communication skills, particularly listening, mediation, and writing skills.
  • Awareness of trauma-informed/responsive treatment practices for youth in crisis.
  • The ability to establish and set appropriate limits with people served to help them gain skills and confidence.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to relate in cross-cultural environments.

What are the minimum education requirements?

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field preferred
  • OR a two-year degree in human services AND at least two years related experience.
  • OR a high school diploma or GED AND at least three years related experience.

What are the scheduled shift you are looking to fill?

  • Tuesday through Saturday - 11AM - 7PM
