Reports to: Electric Transmission & Distribution Superintendent

Job Summary: This position is responsible for the operation, control, and maintenance of the electric substations, distribution and transmission operations, equipment, meters, advanced metering infrastructure, streetlights, and traffic lights.

Essential Duties

• Supervise the staff of electric distribution technicians and system operations technicians assigned to perform operations, controls and maintenance.
• Plan and schedule work assignments and operations for EDT and SOT staff.
• Provide technical support and training.
• Oversee the operations and switching of the 138kV transmission loop and 12.47kv distribution system.
• Coordinate communications with customers, plant, and transmission and distribution staff that are impacted by system operations and maintenance.
• Coordinate communications with city, county, and state entities involving traffic signals and street lighting.
• Manage and provide technical leadership in computerized remote control and data acquisition system.
• Coordinate operations with ITC and MISO as required.
• Coordinate major projects involving substations, metering, or street lighting.
• Develop and maintain all necessary reports, records, files and documentation for O&M Department.
• Develop and maintain budget in area of responsibility.
• Establish Operations and Metering direction, goals and priorities.
• Responsible for safety, training and development of subordinate staff.
• Perform all other tasks as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Electronics or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
• At least four years’ experience in electric distribution, metering and substation/operations.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively manage the daily operations and administration of assigned function.
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience.
• Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents – 5, Applied Math – 5, Graphic Literacy – 5).

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Work includes proximity to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment.
• Physical ability to perform all essential duties as outlined above.
• Mental ability to frequently handle pressures related to working on multiple projects requiring attention to detail. Work includes periodic exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
