We have an exciting opportunity to join our Retirement and Investment Services Team as a Licensed Retirement and Investment Services Specialist.

Summary

The Financial Planner is responsible for administering the services through the WEA Financial Advisors, Inc. (WEA FA), program by engaging in client acquisition activities, discussing planning services with clients, analyzing client needs, recommending appropriate financial products and investments, preparing a written analysis and recommendation, and assisting with plan implementation and monitoring.

Objectives

65% administer the wea fa program to help clients analyze their retirement income, goals, and distribution needs as follows.

  • Consult with clients to determine suitability and gathers and analyzes data to develop financial goals.
  • Prepare and present analyses and recommended financial strategies, including establishing a suitable portfolio, plan distribution, and maintenance strategy, and referring clients to product providers if needed or requested.

30% participate in client acquisition, enrollment, and promotional activities as Follows.

  • Engage in client acquisition activities through enrolling clients into appropriate financial products.
  • Work with the Financial Planning Supervisor to develop a marketing plan to increase client participation, acquisition, and profitability.
  • Participate in promotional activities for the WEA FA, including mail and phone campaigns, participating in conventions, conferences, and making public presentations.

5% assist in special projects as needed, including providing input for month-end and Board reports, and ensuring assigned projects are completed on time and within budget.

Qualifications Required for Appointment

To be considered for appointment to this position, the applicant must demonstrate the following:

  • Commitment to excellence in customer service and other WEA Member Benefits values.
  • Current Wisconsin life and health licenses. If not possessed upon appointment, the incumbent will be expected to obtain the life and health licenses within six months.
  • Current Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 7, Series 63, and either Series 65 or Series 66 licenses. If not possessed upon appointment, the incumbent will be expected to obtain the Series 65 or Series 66 license within 6 months.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following and knowledge in one or more of these other areas: financial planning concepts and techniques; Internal Revenue Code Section 403(b), Section 408, and the pertinent regulations; the Wisconsin Retirement System; and Social Security.
  • Current professional designation applicable to the financial planning industry. If not possessed upon appointment, the incumbent will be expected to obtain within 12 months.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to compose clear, concise, and persuasive correspondence and narrative reports that communicate messages consistent with Company policy using appropriate tone, word usage, and grammar.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with individuals and groups to explain difficult and technical insurance and savings program issues and to listen effectively.
  • Ability to edit written correspondence and assist staff to improve written communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to effectively and completely handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and ability to quickly adapt to changes.
  • Ability to prepare and implement written personal financial plans.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, including appropriate problem identification and analysis, idea generation, information research and organization, and conclusion determination.
  • Ability to use the online record-keeping systems and personal computer software necessary to perform job duties (eMoney; Morningstar; and Microsoft Office programs preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and to establish, monitor, and achieve goals with minimal supervision as well as the ability to work as an effective member of a team.
  • Respectful disposition of all dealings with employees, participants, vendors, and others that promote teamwork and a pleasant work environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and a willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
  • Excellent performance in present and past positions.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred for appointment to this position:

Demonstrated success preparing and implementing written personal financial plans.

  • Current Wisconsin life and health licenses.
  • Current FINRA Series 7, 63, and either 65 or 66.
  • Expertise in more than one of the following and knowledge in one or more of these other areas: financial planning concepts and techniques; Internal Revenue Code Section 403(b), Section 408, and the pertinent regulations; the Wisconsin Retirement System; and Social Security.
  • Expertise in using the online record-keeping systems and personal computer software necessary to perform job duties (eMoney; Morningstar; and Microsoft Office programs preferred).
  • Current Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) professional designation.
  • Bilingual (Hmong, Spanish).

Qualifications Required for Successful Performance

For successful performance in this position, the incumbent will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent performance of all the foregoing duties assigned, including the ability to achieve the quantitative and qualitative goals assigned to the supervised work group.
  • Current Wisconsin life and health licenses if not possessed upon appointment.
  • Current FINRA Series 7, 63, and either 65 or 66 securities licenses if not possessed upon appointment.
  • Expertise in more than one and knowledge of the rest of these areas: financial planning concepts and techniques; Internal Revenue Code Section 403(b), Section 408, and the pertinent regulations; the Wisconsin Retirement System; and Social Security.
  • Thorough understanding of the mission and the political context of the work of WEA Member Benefits.
  • Ability to improve effectiveness and efficiency within the domain of the incumbent’s assigned responsibilities.
  • Mastery of the services, systems, policies, and procedures
  • Commitment to continued learning in all areas relevant to the responsibilities of this position.
