Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for the daily operations of the Health Information Services Department, and the management of information. Monitors records for the completeness and accuracy of all health information given to administration, medical staff, nursing staff, patients, families, and other organizations associated with this health care facility.

Education: Degree in Health Information Technology from an accredited program.

Experience: Requires three (3) years' experience in Health Information Services; supervisory experience preferred.

Required License/Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills needed. Ability to manage and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem-solving skills.

Essential Functions:

• Is responsible for overall supervision of tasks, workflow in the Health Information Services department. Communicates collaboratively with the Clinical Manager to resolve issues and develop systems to facilitate the overall functions of the department.
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills, ability to organize and delegate to respond to urgent or emergent situations. Demonstrates decision-making skills based on accurate information and/or analysis of data.
• Interprets, executes, and enforces the policies and procedures of the hospital, and Health Information Services department.
• Directs the functions of the assigned departments in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards: reviews department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually, and participates in making recommended changes; interprets department policies and procedures to personnel, patients/family members, etc., as necessary; assists in cost containment development of each department within budgeted parameters; reviews and evaluates department's work force and make recommendations to the CEO; evaluates employee performance, and makes recommendations to the CEO.
• Maintains and monitors requirements of State Health Department, Medicare regulations, JCAHO, HIPPA, and application laws and regulations for the Health Information Services Department.
• Monitors compliance with regulations regarding release of private health information and the maintenance of medical records, including those that relate to the age and legal status of the patient.
• Demonstrates an awareness and relevance of research in HIS. Evaluates practices to identify areas for improvement.
