We’re looking for a part-time consulting Payroll Specialist to join our expanding accounting and HR team! 

The Consulting Payroll Specialist will manage the payroll process for multiple clients as part of the PBO Advisory team Payroll Processing Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with clients is a variety of different industries while supporting the people and ensuring compliance.

Responsibilities for this role may include:

  • Lead the Payroll Processing weekly team meeting to share ideas, questions, tips and tricks for processing payroll on a variety of payroll systems.
  • Importing, proofing, editing, processing, and transmitting all payroll wages, deductions, reimbursements, bonuses, commissions, and manual payments consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Consolidating timesheet information and entering/importing data into payroll databases
  • Perform updates to payroll-related information and data and manage overall payroll workflow
  • Ensure timely processing of all new hires, changes, and terminations
  • Analyze and audit payroll data for accuracy of posting
  • Prepare and execute pay orders through an electronic system or distribute paychecks
  • Administer statements of payment to personnel either electronically or on paper
  • Process taxes and payment of employee benefits
  • Keep track of hour rates, wages, compensation benefit rates, new hire information etc.
  • Address and resolve any issues and/or questions regarding payroll from client

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a payroll specialist/administrator
  • A solid knowledge of multi state wage and hour laws
  • Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant payroll software (e.g., Gusto, ADP, Paylocity, Paycom, PayCor, Paychex, Trinet, Trax)
  • Solid understanding of wage and hour laws, accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
  • Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality
  • Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or relevant field is a plus
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly preferred
  • A blend of both corporate and consulting experience is a plus but not required

This position is located in San Diego and requires a combination of on-site and remote work. PBO offers competitive pay and a comprehensive benefit package which includes 401(k) with a company match, medical/dental/vision insurance, FSA, AD&D, and paid time for volunteering.
