Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to direct and coordinate, through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with production of company products, utilizing knowledge of product technology, production methods and procedures, and capabilities of machines and equipment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes to satisfy our customers’ needs.
  • Supervises and coordinates duties of the Operations functions to obtain optimum profitability. This includes production, distribution, warehousing, inventory control, maintenance, and quality control in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by senior management.
  • Manage production planning and scheduling to achieve greater than 98% on-time delivery for production, distribution, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Reviews master schedule and work orders, establishes priorities, and revises schedule according to projects, work order specifications, and availability and capability of available resources.
  • Organizes resources to ensure the effective production of goods and/or services and monitors incoming material, production process, scrap control, backorders, on time deliveries, and customer satisfaction.
  • Interprets company policies for employees and enforces company policies and practices.
  • Determine equipment, materials and staffing needs to meet the current production schedule and anticipate changes to that schedule based on future demand.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  • Recommend process changes for quality performance, continuous improvement, cost effectiveness and excellent customer service.
  • Organize skills training for employees to enable them to achieve production objectives.
  • May assist other managers or Supervisors in other duties or special projects as needed.

  • Coaching and Developing Others: Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Personnel and Human Resources: Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, and labor relations.
  • Communicating with Managers, Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to managers, supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Resolving Conflicts and Negotiating with Others: Managing complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Safety and Security: Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Quality Control: Knowledge of principles and procedures of enterprise quality programs such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings: Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
  • Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Technology: ERP software (Microsoft Dynamics Navision), materials requirements planning MRP software, logistics and supply chain software, Microsoft Office software, email, familiarization with CAD and design software (Autocad, SolidEdge, SolidWorks, SigmaNest, ProNest).
  • Tools: Computer, office equipment, and personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, etc.).

Qualifications

  • This position requires the individual to have a bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in operations, engineering, industrial management, engineering technology, or related field of study or 10 years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least seven (7) years prior supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience in metal fabrication, machining, and/or light manufacturing.

Preferences

  • OSHA 30-hour certificate.
  • Ability to read blueprints or customer drawings for manufactured parts and assemblies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has production supervisors and leads reporting to it. This position fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; appraising performance; rewarding/disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • This position is responsible for employee training, leading projects, policy and procedure compliance, and audits for the company.
  • Oversees all production employees when needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and be able to communicate verbally and in writing and take directions. The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, small spaces, electrical, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position is required to be on call 24 hours a day to address any issues that may arise during other shifts.
