Isthmus Montessori Academy is Hiring an Early Childhood Teacher Assistant Near Madison, WI

Position: Supporting Educator

Supervised by: Heads of School

Directly Supports: Lead Guides and learners in the classroom

Key Relationships: Lead Guides in the classroom, learners and their families

General Description:

We operate as a team at Isthmus Montessori Academy (Public), and you may be requested to perform tasks that you may have observed other people doing. Performing all tasks that you may be asked to do is an important component of being a team member.

Schedule:

  • 7:30-4pm OR 8-4:30 Monday through Friday
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Attend all community education and events to which you are assigned

Qualifications:

Required Before Hire:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 18 years or older
  • Experience working with children, preferred
  • Positive attitude and critical thinking skills
  • Physically capable to work with children on the floor and outside, as well as to lift materials, classroom furniture, and clean
  • A strong understanding of Education, child development, and positive classroom management techniques
  • Possess an attitude that reflects a belief in the philosophy of the IMA organization

Required Within 90 Days:

  • CPR certification
  • Background Check and Fingerprinting
  • Health Report and TB test
  • Mandated Reporter Training of Child Abuse and Neglect and other necessary DPI and DCF trainings
  • Registry Account and Education Station Coursebooks, if applicable

General Behavior Expectations

  • Demonstrates patience, integrity, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and diplomacy
  • Ensure equity in the classroom and when working with learners
  • Model and ensure all interactions and communication is done with kindness, respect, professional, and positive
  • Follow grace and courtesy code of ethics and all IMA(P) policies and procedures
  • Approach each day, child, presentation, and adult with love and understanding
  • Strive to create peace within the classroom and within the entire school community
  • Embrace life-long learning experiences and be open to communication and feedback
  • Consistently arrive to work in a timely fashion and as scheduled
  • Check out with the Heads of School at the end of each shift

Safety and Supervision

  • Knowing and being responsible for the location/whereabouts of all children in the classroom environment at all times of the day
  • Supervise daily activities for the indoor and outdoor environments
  • Use careful observation to ensure children are safe at all times
  • Ensure tools and materials are age appropriate being used correctly
  • Ensure classroom environment is clean and tidy
  • Follow IMA(P)’s no phone usage while at work
  • Ensure classroom backpack is properly stocked and with you every time you leave the classroom

Classroom Expectations

  • Communicate proactively with the Lead Guide on a regular basis
  • Follow the direct line of communication in regards to concerns and complaints
  • Support the Lead Guide in classroom engagement, lesson preservation, and fostering student independence
  • Assist in classroom transitions (indoor/outdoor time, lunch, work period, etc.)
  • Prepare the classroom environment (organizing materials, sweeping, mopping, laundry, etc.) at the end of each school day

Recordkeeping

  • Document meaningful observations of classroom engagements and student work and upload to Transparent Classroom
  • Record all incidents and injuries in the classroom medical log or Transparent Classroom

Professional Development

  • All employees must complete Montessori Core Principles training by the end of their third year working at IMA(P)
  • Observe for 2 hours a year at another Montessori school if you do not attend the AMI Refresher Course
  • Attend all staff meetings and staff in-service trainings
  • Attend regular check-ins with Lead Guides and HOS to seek out and implement feedback and suggestions on improvement

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
