VIRSCIO, INC. is Hiring a Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist Near New Haven, CT

In addition to routine nonclinical toxicopathology, our focused specialties include neuropathology, ocular pathology, tissue pharmacodynamics, applying digital pathology and image analysis. We have an outstanding opportunity for a recently boarded anatomic pathologist or for one aspiring to achieve board certification after completing a 3-year residency training program.

Come join a growing, innovative CRO working with highly trained anatomic pathologists focused on support of nonclinical studies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work remotely are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise necropsies (virtually or in-person) and provide scientific guidance to necropsy technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocols and SOP's.
  • Study Execution:Perform microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections (digitally scanned or glass slides) from animals exposed to test article. Conduct analyses and reporting in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) aligning with study and reporting needs. Correlate microscopic findings with necropsy, organ weight and clinical pathology findings. Continuously grow skills in specialty areas such a neuropathology, ocular pathology, immunohistochemistry, etc. May function as a peer review pathologist.
  • Study Reporting:Write comprehensive pathology narrative reports of microscopic, gross, and clinical pathology findings in a timely manner. Provide pathology support in the interpretation of test article-related toxicology findings in safety studies and tissue pharmacodynamic interpretation where relevant.
  • Client Interaction:Communicate the significance of pathologic findings to Study Directors and clients. 
  • Vivarium, Regulatory & Administrative Support:Work closely with the Pathology Director, Senior Research Pathologists, Histology Director, Study Directors, and facility veterinarians to maintain and advance the facility veterinary program, and health and welfare of the facility colony through oversight of diagnostic pathology cases, including histopathologic analysis and correlation with clinical and gross necropsy findings. Contribute to maintenance of facility GLPs and AAALAC credentials.
  • Scientific Communications:Author/co-author scientific manuscripts and conference presentations. Present company capabilities at relevant scientific meetings. Network with external colleagues to build confidence in company capabilities. Stay abreast of current, relevant peer-reviewed scientific literature.

Qualifications

Education level/Certifications/Licensures

    • DVM/VMD degree (or equivalent)
    • Successful completion of a 3-year residency in Anatomic Veterinary Pathology
    • ACVP/ECVP board-certification or willingness to actively work toward board-certification.

Experience

    • This is an entry-level position ideal for candidates desiring a career in toxicologic pathology. Our Pathology team has the knowledge and resources to train you to launch your career in toxicologic pathology.

Specific competencies 

    • Proficiency using routine (MS Office/Teams, Skype, Zoom, etc.) software.
    • Experience with digital pathology (Concentriq, Aperio, etc.), and pathology-specific electronic data systems (Provantis, Pristima, etc.) is a plus, but not required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong self-discipline and ability to work productively with minimal direct supervision.
