Clackamas Community College is Hiring a Criminal Justice Instructor [Part-Time Faculty Pool] Near Oregon, OR

Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire for a part-time faculty pool for available Criminal Justice assignments during the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on department need. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develops and teaches Criminal Justice classes, focusing on law enforcement, in on-campus, online, and hybrid formats
  • Instructs students in a classroom. Provides student contact before and after class and by telephone, video conferencing, scheduled meetings or email exchanges during office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
  • Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, include course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate; incorporates the latest classroom technology when available and appropriate to instructional activities.
  • Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students for each course.
     Understands, develops and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity within the college community.
  • Responsible for classroom and departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
  • Understands and abides by college policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required by the college, departments or divisions.
  • Convenes classes on time and as scheduled.
  • Maintains evaluation and grading records for assigned students; enters grades and provides all necessary documentation for incompletes within established college timelines and guidelines.
  • Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices. May direct aides and work study students as assigned. Understands and uses the college's computer system.

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master’s degree or above in a field related to Criminal Justice, OR
  • Master’s degree or above in any field, and Bachelor’s degree in a Criminal Justice related field, OR 
  • Master’s degree or above and extensive policing experience.
  • Minimum of five years experience as a police officer or in another law enforcement role; note that corrections experience will NOT be considered in evaluating this requirement
  • Knowledge of current philosophies, tactics, training, hiring practices, laws, etc. related to policing
  • Ability to use technology and online learning platforms to teach or enhance teaching in face to face, online, or hybrid formats
  • Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching experience using diverse pedagogy with a diverse student population

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including the use of step stools in order to retrieve archived materials. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as papers, files, boxes, equipment, computers, etc., and rarely requires moving materials weighing over 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment includes classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of the Department Chair and/or Dean.
