Position Title: Assistant Manager - Millwork

Reports to: General Manager

Classification: Salary

Department: Millwork

The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment with ever-changing challenges. The building materials supply industry is one in which time is money. Leading a team that is efficient, accurate, and dedicated to being productive is key. Being able to build relationships with customers and coworkers is a trait the ideal candidate must possess. Success will come easily to someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and jump in wherever/whenever needed.

Purpose of Position: Accountable for the overall administrative and logistical functions of the location’s day-to-day operations, assisting the General Manager as needed.

Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation).

  • Maintain standards of business control; ensure proper procedures on all paperwork functions
  • Manage all inventory control functions, assuring that appropriate loss prevention measures are being followed
  • Study records and recommend remedial actions for reported non-usable, slow moving, and excess merchandise, trace history of questioned items to determine reasons for discrepancies and solutions
  • Order inventory as directed by the General Manager
  • Monitor special orders using company policy, verifying that customer has signed the confirmation, the acknowledgement from vendor has been critiqued, and the special order has been entered into the computer system
  • Advise employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, and shipping merchandise; and related problems
  • Determine work procedures, assist in preparing work schedules, and monitor work flow
  • Investigate customer complaints involving damaged items, invoiced quantity disputes, price discrepancies, and delays in shipment; corrects problems
  • Maintain an active role in cultivating positive customer relations
  • Answer telephone inquiries pleasantly and promptly
  • Assist Sales Coordinators as needed
  • Maintain a clean store environment
  • Attend and participate in all company sponsored training programs as required
  • Follow the company’s safety policies as outlined in the company safety program
  • Assist supervisor or other employees as needed
  • Assume responsibility for the location in the General Manger’s absence
  • Perform any other task or duty assigned by the General Manager

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)

Experience

  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (Duties that are likely to be assigned to this person unless they prove unable to perform them after receiving training and/or accommodations that the company judges appropriate).

  • Administrative skills including assigning work, discipline, evaluating, planning, supervision, and training
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong analytical reasoning and judgment to quickly solve customer service issues
  • Communicate with customers, other employees, and supervisors using verbal and written skills
  • Above average reading and writing skills
  • Basic computer skills

Physical Demands

  • Strength (lift, carry, push, and pull), maximum lift – 100 lbs.; frequently lift/carry – up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively.
  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination.
  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead
  • Must regularly be able to sit, squat, bend, twist, and stand.
  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally.

Working Conditions

  • Work inside in controlled temperature
  • Work outside in temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold
  • Occasionally works near moving parts and in outside weather conditions
  • Work with small store equipment
