Guardian Agriculture is Hiring a Field Test Engineering Technician Near Salinas, CA

About Us:
Guardian Agriculture develops large multicopters for applying agricultural chemicals to high-value crops. Our systems radically improve precision and safety relative to existing plane- and helicopter-based crop spraying solutions, while reducing chemical use, reducing impact on pollinating insects, and minimizing opportunities for organisms to acquire chemical resistance.
Guardian is a small, multi-disciplinary team of talented engineers, technicians, and operators who are passionate about making an impact by connecting technology to solve critical customer needs. We value collaboration, candor, thoughtful design, and a growth mindset as we scale the organization and build an autonomous system that farmers can trust.
SUMMARY:
  • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Technician specializing in custom equipment to join our dynamic team.
  • This individual will play a crucial role in commissioning, operating, diagnosing, and troubleshooting our prototype agricultural robots as well as developing maintenance and operational procedures.
  • You will be responsible for identifying and resolving downtime issues and ensuring the smooth functioning of our robotic systems in the field while improving mean time between failure, mean time to repair and lowering the bar on issue identification and overall cost of ownership.
  • This role is ideal for someone who likes to work outside at times testing, trouble shooting robots or drones; someone who has a strong background in custom, complex mechatronics equipment and a passion for innovation and problem solving.
What You'll do:
  • Diagnose and Root Cause Downtime Issues: Quickly identify and address any operational issues with prototype robots, using advanced troubleshooting skills to determine root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Documentation Management: Create, update, and maintain comprehensive build and process documentation, ensuring that all procedures and modifications are accurately recorded for reference and compliance purposes.
  • Operations Support: Collaborate closely with the operations team to ensure that prototype robots are maintained in a state of readiness and are capable of performing as needed. Provide technical support and guidance to operational staff.
  • Prototype Development and Improvement: Actively participate in the development and improvement of prototype robots, applying innovative solutions to enhance functionality and efficiency.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians and engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices in robotics technology and maintenance.
To Be Successful You Will Have:
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience interfacing with complex mechatronics systems, with a focus on prototype development and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of complex equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  • Proficiency in technical documentation and documentation development.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with different departments.
  • Strong organizational skills and incredible attention to detail.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and methods.
Benefits:
Flexible time off, competitive salary, stock options, free company lunch every day, comprehensive benefits package, lots of tools, and the opportunity to build and play with flying machines that will have an environmental impact. We offer three months paid Maternity and Paternity Leave for new parents and encourage all parents to take it.
