Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Manager

The Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive EHS programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role will also champion a culture of safety and environmental stewardship to ensure all environmental, health and safety programs, procedures, training, and controls are effectively managed for the company. The successful candidate will influence the strategic direction, leadership, and support with all levels and areas of the organization to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary advisor to senior leadership on all EHS matters, providing guidance on risk management, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement correction actions.
  • Monitor and interpret EHS regulations and standards, ensuring the companys practices and policies are up-to-date and compliant.
  • Lead and coach others through investigations into EHS incidents, including root cause analysis, and the development of preventive measures.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Interprets and communicates environmental, health & safety standards impacting the company and satellite operations.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and training to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for EHS emergencies and coordinate response efforts.
  • Promote a highly collaborative approach to EHS management, ensuring that all relevant parties are engaged and informed.
  • Work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, community groups, and industry partners, to effectively address and resolve EHS challenges.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions to complex EHS issues as needed.
  • Rooted in the incident investigation, reporting, and follow-up with involved departments and Human Resources (JSA). Initiates follow-up action and communication; maintains appropriate files and records in accordance with regulatory record retention requirements.
  • Monitors activities of all departments in a manner to prevent harm to employees, visitors, public health and the environment.
  • Safety Programs- Facilitates and directs the Safety Committee, First Responders and related meetings. Facilitates the company safety programs in a manner consistent with established requirements and external standards. Promotes employee safety awareness through the development, implementation and administration of a variety of training, incentive and communication programs.
  • Health Programs- Manages the provision of competent first aid and/or treatment for work-related injuries/illnesses, health maintenance/medical surveillance and other EHS services for company employees. Manages industrial hygiene, monitoring for noise, particulates, etc. in accordance with the company and regulatory requirements. Maintains detailed and organized related records.
  • Environmental Programs- Obtains, maintains, and ensures compliance with County, State, and Federal environmental-related approvals, permits, plans, registrations; and routine or periodic reporting related to air (V.O.C, CARB, AQMD), waste (RCRA, TSCA), Storm water, TRIR, and EPA.
  • Regulation Compliance - Ensures company facilities are in compliance with external safety, health and regulations such as OSHA, D.O.T., CPSC, DTSC, EPA, through assessment and inspection; monitoring, compiling and analyzing relevant test data; meeting reporting and permit requirements of relevant agencies; and working closely with personnel to identify problems, develop and implement solutions.
  • Understands all potential safety and environmental hazards of chemical raw materials handled/stored at company locations. Takes steps to reduce the use of problematic chemicals and/or mitigate any potential safety and environmental health hazards.
  • Reviews, creates and oversees accuracy of SDS and safety-related language on product labels to ensure content and warnings comply with applicable regulations.
  • Prepare, deliver and/or coordinate training events to all employees and maintain training matrix
  • Manages facilities storm water compliance and ensures structural and non-structural controls are in place and functioning properly
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies; local fire, police and other safety organizations
Qualifications:
  • A bachelors degree in environmental science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, EH&S Management, or other related degree, and minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in roles supporting or implementing safety programs in an industrial setting is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • EHS Certification required.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS programs.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials management and waste characterization, as well as environmental hazards in a manufacturing facility required.
  • Highly collaborative mindset with experience working with internal and external stakeholders to solve problems efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be proficient and knowledgeable of OSHA, D.O.T, CPSC, EPA and V.O.C. related regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with a wide variety of audiences (production, management, administrative, etc,).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, primarily the use of Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence by example and the ability to work with all levels of the organization. Ability to develop and make presentations before various audience sizes at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions regarding work methods and priorities while maintaining the high confidentiality necessary for personnel work required.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple work projects, adapt to changing priorities, and meet set deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills; friendly and approachable required
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills required
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures in making work decisions or in providing information to others

Working Conditions:

  • Working Environment: Plant wide position; frequent interactions and projects in office, shop and outdoor environments
  • Physical Demands: Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Sitting and talking on the phone for long periods of time.
  • Data entry for long periods of time.
  • Travel Requirements: As needed, less than 5% of the time.
