Basic Function:

A Store Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining customer service, oversees and is accountable for the operation of a store ensures maximum sales and profitability through merchandising, inventory, expense control, human resources management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage.

Examples Of Work Performed:

  • Ensures the customer service office is operated properly with responding to customer questions and complaints effectively. Other jobs at customer service office include are: money order printing, Western Union transactions, and handling United Parcel Mailing Service, UPMS.
  • Accountable for handling/ protecting all cash balances
  • Performs interviews of qualified applicants.
  • Conducts timely performance appraisals of associates.
  • Handles termination of employees in accordance with Food Rite policy and all applicable laws.
  • Ensures that each customer receives outstanding Customer Service by encouraging a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of Customer Service.
  • Authorizes overtime when required. Monitors hours to prevent the occurrence of overtime on a weekly basis.
  • Ensures appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise adjacencies and presentations; signing, and assortment in all departments; ensure selling floor is adequately stocked.
  • Responsible for ensuring the equipment in the store is working properly-freezers, coolers, HVAC, cash registers, lights, outside and inside signs, music, restrooms in proper working order.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures through regular store management and staff meetings, store walk-through and audits, etc.
  • Continually evaluates and reacts to performance issues with corrective action and actively recruit management candidates.
  • Trains and develops associates in all aspects of the business; directs and monitors training and development for all store personnel.
  • Supervises associates’ daily duties.
  • Assists with stocking.
  • Alert to and report any condition that might compromise the safety of customers or associates
  • Faces store.
  • Makes the grocery order.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by Store Supervisor.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility:

  • Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise associates in all departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the store. Also directly supervises non-supervisory associates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Food Rite policies and procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment:

Regular retail store environment with occasional travel, required at regular intervals, the ability to lift at least 50lbs., environment is fast paced with strong emphasis on excellent customer service and fair a lawful treatment of associate.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required At Entry:

  • Ability to communicate with associates and customers.
  • Ability to read, count, and write in English.
  • Ability to handle more than one job at a time.
  • Knowledge of basic math skills, basic office and computer skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed and scheduled.
  • Ability to create a weekly work schedule for 10-50 associate.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Minimum Qualifications

· Education:

High School Diploma/ GED equivalent.

  • Experience:

At least three years in the position of Assistant Manager of a grocery retail store.
